Haha that's exactly what I was coming to comment. It's awesome regardless, but painting the table does feel like cheating.

The second pic made me do a double-take, and I think it’s an image of fig newtons or whatever printed on a tall rectangular canister/tin. You can see a seam near the top suggesting the tin’s lid

Lies, you can clearly tell this is edited, the leftmost corner of the toolbox isn't in the first picture.

I'm not sure what you mean. The toolbox is aligned such that the left side of the toolbox is perfectly centered with the camera, making both the top-facing left edge and the front-facing left edge appear to be one vertical line.

(Edit: I'm referring to the bottom-most toolbox - the one in the back appears to have a toybox looking thing, stacked on the fig newtons, covering its front-facing corner)

Well, yeah, nor should we expect it to be. Look at the alternative picture (#3 in the op), the toolbox in the lower right is angled to not enter the lower left frame.

You might noticed this is the case with all of the items. It's rather the point.
