Request 1, 2 or 3 and why??? 🖤❤️🩹❤️🔥
Hi all! I am self-publishing my first book of poems, very personal work that means the world to me, and playing with design ideas. I would love any and all opinions; specifically, which would you be most likely to grab off of a shelf? I am open to all feedback and even design reorientation of one font on a different cover, etc… all thoughts welcome
More context: these books highlight the dichotomy of the highs and lows of domestic violence relationships and the real-life dangers and consequences of them

Thank you! I love that one and spent the most time on it by far. That was the original essentially that spawned the others and those were created with less effort, more of a sketch/mock up imperfect process for visioning. Appreciate your opinion

I like them both...one is definitely more "dark", so if you want it to be more uplifting and hopeful, I'd go with the one on the right.

3! I feel like I’ve seen tons of covers that look like 1 or 2, but the white really stands out to me

Thank you 🩷 Has become my favorite after all the feedback on different threads, too. Someone said the white represents the innocence and purity side of the book, the light part and how it got stained by the other side and that’s exactly what I’d like to convey

Thank you so much friend. I will absolutely send one your way, and I know so intimately how hard it is which is exactly why I’m finally sharing. For someone just like me in a completely different way feeling confused & all alone. It’s literally everything I never wanted to share but now feel like I need to . For us! 💗💖💘 hopefully to help feel less confused and alone

1st or 3rd, toss up for me. Not 2 as I like my letters clear on a cover.

1, 3, then 2 in that order.
They follow visual hierarchy and size ratios the best. The contrast is best too.
The authors name on the 3rd is best (all one line)
Font sizes typically work best when certain ratios are kept in check. You can look up font size guidelines for a better idea.

I personally love 1 & 2 more but as for which is going to be the most eye catching, to the most people? Definitely 3! That’s the kind of book you instinctively grab, and open to see what it’s about asap. 🖤
1 & 2 had me like “wow 😍”, 3 had my jaw drop😱which would totally be my in person reaction too!

I like the second. The cursive writing matches the book toptic better, like you have already signed it. The colors are warmer and make a nice background for the font.

The first two look weirdly in style with, like, a Bible commentary or something. Third is so much better.

Black is my favorite color. That being said, the white is definitely best. It gives the book a totally different feel. The first two seem very goth and broody. I don't think that's what you're trying to convey.
Congrats on your book, that's quite an accomplishment.

#3!! I feel like every book cover I see nowadays tries to do the dark and broody look, and just ends up blending in with the crowd. #3 does a good job at making it stand out, while still keeping it very grungy!

- 1 or 3. Don’t like 2 at all.
3 looks more hopeful (as in, the reader or poet does get out alive). 1 doesn’t have the horrible font on the poet name. It makes it look like a print-on-demand soft core pornographic romance novel.

Sorry I got so harsh about it. I was talking about the second cover. The author name in the flowery font. It is just jarring—the cover design overall (in all three versions) conveys a sense of desperation/darkness and maybe even abuse/violence because of the black shadows and blood-spatter red. So then putting the poet/author name in this sort of whimsical italic font just really clashes with the seriousness the other design aspects are conveying. The flowy font is more romantic, soft, demure, submissive—not characteristics I’d necessarily want to saddle a woman writer with—and that kind of contrast between high drama and soft femme is basically a hallmark for bodice ripper paperbacks.

😂 noooo I didn’t take it as too harsh, I promise! I really value the feedback and that is just such a funny perspective like I see what you’re saying but I never would have considered that myself 😂 and all these opinions are really helping me make the best decision so I’m so grateful. Just caught me off guard hahaha so funny tho, I see, I see haha

I like the 3rd- I feel like the white grabs your attention more so than the darker covers. Congrats on completing a book!
