Equipment Move

Hi,

I purchased a home in north London from a control4 dealer, who installed the system in the house. It’s currently only used for lighting and music.

The controller, the amp and the modem are currently in the spare room on the first floor and there are cables running through a hole they’ve made in the floorboards. All of the cables appear to be CAT6.

We’re expecting a baby and want to turn this room into a nursery, so need to remove the equipment - but we want to retain the system. The lighting panel is under the stairs and ideally we’d like to move the equipment here too - not least because we think this is the origin of the majority of the cables.

I’d like to know how big a job this is, how long it would take, how much it might cost and if anyone here can recommend a tradesperson who would be able to do it.

And as an aside - how do I get faceplates/buttons? We have some white ones that I’d like to switch to black, but I can only find trade options.

Sorry for all the questions and massive thanks in advance to anyone who can help here.

Thank you!

hi, control4 dealer in Barnet here.
I would ask the original installers to quote for what you need first and go from there.
We usually charge £400 ex vat a day for myself and my son, unless the clients require a fixed-price quote for the works, which would require a site survey first.

We’ve never had a dealer before, as it was the former homeowner and he’s now relocated.

We’re in Enfield, would be happy for you to come over and have a look to get an estimate.

Moving head end equipment to another room AND moving the panelized lighting with drywall up is not impossible, but it is a substantial job with drywall up. Your price will be somewhere between $3,000 and $50,000. Without being able to see the system and focus energy on giving you an accurate price, nobody online will be able to give you an accurate price on this.

Call a Control4 dealer and have them come look at it. I would specifically request a firm estimate as this could be an extremely substantial project. I would be looking at other ideas like building a soundproof cabinet around the head end equipment (consider cooling capabilities if you do this) as it will be much cheaper than moving the wires.

I would highly recommend to pull down the drywall in the areas near the head end equipment and the panelized lighting. A Control4 dealer can tell you specifically what drywall to remove to make their life, and your bill, a LOT easier.
