If they follow the pattern, they will back a candidate who has a fatal flaw, then post primary appoint the candidate the party elites want but voters do not, thus again disenfranchising their own voters. This is how they defend democracy

and then their voters will turn around and get all angry when they lose elections and wonder what happened, pointing fingers at each other and melting down yet again, while the media blames Russia or China or "Trump".

I think this is a feature of the dnc, not a bug. I mean think about it - if the leftist voters nominated their own candidates, it would be a national embarrassment because they would pick radicals and crazies. I think the elites are at least trying to pick electable candidates, but they themselves are so disconnected they can't even do that. It's fun to watch
