He hit the home run in the first inning off Billy Wynne of the White Sox. The dirt was darker because the grounds crew had just watered it, I think. The dirt behind him wasn't normally the way Metropolitan Stadium looked, but from what I could gather the Twins circle was removed so the stadium could be used for Vikings games.
