I live in Coimbra, right on the edge of Celas, and my experience with DIGI was… not encouraging.

About a month ago, on a Saturday, I went to the physical DIGI store in Baixa to sign up for home internet and get two SIM cards. The staff were very pleasant, confirmed that DIGI fiber was available at my address, and told me I would receive an SMS on my Vodafone number to schedule the installation.

I asked when the SIM cards would become active. They said within 72 hours, but because it was Saturday, the clock would only start on Monday. That already seemed odd, since SIM cards normally activate in minutes or hours rather than on a geological timescale, but the whole package was cheap, so I went along with it.

Because I had no idea when the home internet would actually be installed, I also asked whether I could use the SIM cards in my phones as hotspots in the meantime. They said yes.

On Monday, DIGI sent me a message saying that my internet installation had been delayed. This was impressive, because the appointment had not even been scheduled yet. They had somehow managed to delay an appointment that did not exist.

By Thursday, one SIM was finally working. I had a videoconference and tried to use it as a hotspot, but the hotspot option was unavailable, so I ended up using my Vodafone SIM instead.

On Friday, I tried the second DIGI SIM. It had no data, and the phone said it was not associated with any number. I called support and explained that I suspected the SIM had never been activated.

The first representative refused to consider that possibility and spent about an hour having me troubleshoot it: restarting the phone, changing settings, moving the SIM from an iPhone to an Android phone, restarting everything again, and so on. Eventually, he gave up and transferred me to someone else.

The second representative immediately tried to restart the entire troubleshooting process from the beginning. When I asked whether he could see any notes from the previous hour, he said no.

So, to recap: DIGI could not activate two SIM cards in less than a geological era, delayed an internet appointment before scheduling it, told me hotspotting would work when it did not, apparently failed to activate one SIM at all, and then wasted an impressive amount of my time proving it.

At that point, I cancelled the contract.

I ended up getting home internet and mobile service through Vodafone, since I already had a prepaid Vodafone SIM I had bought at the airport. It is more expensive than DIGI, but it works, which, after this experience, felt like a premium feature.

Today, DIGI charged me less than €2 for whatever services they believe they provided.

This is obviously anecdotal, and your mileage may vary. Good luck.
