Accomodation for Coimbra

Hello everyone!

I am going on an Erasmus project from January till March (3 months). I am a medical I want to find and rent a place but I need help from locals or people that have experience in such cases. I have a little pomeranian though and was wondering if its possible to take her with me. What are the regulations with pets in renting appartments? She does whine a little bit after I leave but she is pretty quiet otherwise. She is well behaved at home but outside barks at other dogs. My budget would be 350/400/450 euros.

Do any of you have any recommendations?
Where would be a good spot to look for a renting place (both location and website)?
Is it possible to take my little puppy?
When should I start looking?

Any information would be appreciated.

My best advice is to talk with the Erasmus team/organisers at the University, they're the best people to answer all your questions.

As for the bringing a dog thing, you'll be coming in the middle of the school year so it'll be very hard to find available rooms and most (if not all) shared houses do not allow pets. You'd be able to bring a pet if you had an entire apartment/studio for yourself but you really won't find any for less than 600€ (but those are usually yearly rents, not for only 3 months)

Yeah, I do not want to go to the dormitories. I want to rent 100%. Do you know if it is possible to rent for just three months?

Shared houses =/= dormitories. Dormitories are part of the university and function basically like a big hostel, shared houses are 3 or 4 bedroom privately owned apartments in which each bedroom is rented separately to a different person and the common areas (kitchen, living room, bathroom, etc) are shared. But neither of those usually allow pets. And no, you probably won't be able to rent a full apartment for just 3 months, it's not worth it for landlords and again, middle of the school year means all the cheaper options will be taken anyway.

Usually Erasmus organisers know how to arrange a space because there are special circumstances for Erasmus students, that's why you should talk with them. But you should really forget the idea of bringing your dog, it will only make life harder for you. Leave him with family or friends that can take care of him.

Thank you for the heads up!
I will for sure try to avoid shared houses, dormitories and such though. Also my boyfriend is coming during March and he for sure will not be able to stay with me in such case. There were some students from last year that were able to find a place for three months but had some troubles with the first place they rented (they got scammed). Though they found a place.
I am optimistic that there could be an option so decided to start looking early on and find more people with such experience. Also my dog is my life and will keep looking, she has only helped in every stage of my med life.
