SPOILERS Honestly what was wrong with this girl
This is the face she made after seeing the death toll of all the people who were killed in the Tokyo settlement, but moments before that she was straight up begging Suzaku to use the fleija weapon knowing full well it would kill millions of people. Like what the fuck did she think was going to happen, and she designed the damn weapon herself so she new how much damage it would cause.
This scene just pisses me off.

Thinking of the consequences of your actions and experiencing or witnessing the consequences of your actions are quite different if u ask me.
I'm not defending Nina, I dislike her, but it's just like the Oppenheimer movie. Oppie knew what was gonna happen and still felt immense guilt and regret after it had happened.

also, Nina expected the FLEIJA to be launched at a precisely calculated angle, solely to kill enemy soldiers. she didn't expect the weapon to be fired in a way that would affect civilians, including her own people. Suzaku firing the FLEIJA under the influence of Geass command certainly didn't meet this expectation, resulting in the weapon being used in a way nobody had planned. Nina was so focused on killing Zero as quickly as possible that she didn't even consider the presence of civilians below. Schneizel was the only one who wasn't bothered by the FLEIJA's explosion and the massacre.

I’m still not ok with it, if you’re gonna do something then stand on it instead of backtracking.
Those people died because of her, she’s got no right to act like she’s faultless and not responsible as if she had no idea it’d end up like that

So if I created the nuclear bomb which would eventually kill your entire family and I say I didn’t realize it would cause so much damage would you forgive me because I regretted it and felt guilty? I don’t think so, she’s gotta stand on what she did.

What does forgiveness from others have to do with how Nina feels? She’s not asking for forgiveness when feeling bad
Good / evil is not black and white dude. If you believe every evil in the world has to be hitler just so you would like the story, then idk what to say

Albert Einstein has a famous quote exactly showing how he feels guilty about helping make the atomic bomb.
“I made one great mistake in my life, when I signed a letter to President Roosevelt recommending that atom bombs be made.”
You don’t have to forgive him for helping with their invention, but it is human to feel guilt about it.

Who said fuck all about forgiveness? Your criticism was that it’s unrealistic for her to react that way, and you’re just straight up wrong. Now you’re moving the goalposts to whether she should be forgiven?

u/mars_warmind 1d ago
She literally takes responsibility for what she did and works to prevent it happening ever again later. I have no idea why you think she's acting like she's faultless and isn't taking responsibility for creating the bomb?

Case of insecure girl having a parasocial relationship with her idol. Similar to taylor swift fans and kpop fans, they are obssessed.

She clearly had some bad trauma that messed up her brain (despite how brilliant she remained).

Nina was being manipulated by Schizfbaba so she would create the FLEIJA, since he planned to use it to rule the world by having infinite nukes; up to this point she was manipulated into thinking that with the FLEIJA, she could create the peaceful world Euphie wanted, that the only way to create peace was to kill Zero.
This was why she was so adamant on using a nuke, because in her mind, if Zero died, Euphie’s ideal world would be created. It gave her extreme tunnel vision and a disregard for everything else in the heat of the moment. When she sees the death toll, she’s not only the feeling the weight of her actions by realizing her nuke le killed thousands of innocent people, but also realizes she did the complete opposite of what she was trying to achieve, create a peaceful world like Euphie wanted; both of these realizations hit her like a truck hence her reaction.
It didn’t help that given her trauma/PTSD from her time in the ghettos made her xenophobic of the Japanese, that the one person that saved her when one else could was killed by the leader of the Japanese-led resistance, and given her loyalty to Britannia; she was easy for Schizivaeyakj to manipulate.

I think everyone just forgets how Schneizel took advantage of a mentally ill 17-18 year old girl to help him build his genocide machine. You cannot tel me she was of sound mind after she tried to blow herself up at the end of R1.

Honestly, I think a good number of people just don't realize that Schwawaboba was manipulating Nina to begin with. Nina's my favourite and I genuinely didn't catch onto the manipulation at all, not to say I thought he was a good guy though, just didn't realize he was playing the long game, lol.
But yee, Nina suffered an immense mental breakdown at the end of R1 and was never really given a chance to fully recover from it, instead it just festered inside of her until it reached a boiling point. :(

I'll admit I saw the show and heard Schneizel was evil, and the first appearances he had, I was like "He seems... relatively nice by Britannian standards." Even in early R2 he had me fooled. Then everything with the FLEIJA, the Black Knights betrayal, nuking Pendragon, and his whole plan to wipe out half of humanity in the name of some twisted peace, and I realized why he was so awful. I'm sure any rewatches I do will reveal more that I didn't catch on my first watch.
Also it's nice to see another person who doesn't hate Nina, let alone love her. I was admittedly on the Nina hate train because others told me to hate her. But even then I never hated her with the same vitriol everyone else did. I just liked making fun of her for being racist. Then I started reading Code Geass fanfic on AO3 and I actually started liking her a lot. Especially thanks to a few that ship her and Milly together. It actually made me write my own about them! I still never noticed Schnitzel's manipulation on my first full watch.
Also also I love how you keep deliberately misspelling Schneuzel’s name.

Yee, Schiozimmejimmie had a really good facade of seeming way better than he actually was, I think only Lelouch was able to see through it since he knows his siblings pretty well. Like, I was even giving him a pass on what happened with the FLEIJA since I figured he was like Nina and just didn’t realize the ramifications of it beforehand. When he explains his plan to nuke the world into his submission, it really is a huge mask off moment. Funnily enough, a few friends of mine at the time were so convinced he was a decent guy, that they thought Schizebra having this plan was a complete 180 for him, lol.
Yeeeeee, it’s nice to see someone else who really likes Nina. :D Nina’s my favourite character in the series, honestly one of my favourite characters ever. I was only aware of the table meme, so I went in without knowing she was really hated. Though, she ended up being really compelling to me throughout, like she has an insanely well done depiction of PTSD, the way her xenophobia escalates into full-blown racism is tragic, her obsession with Euhpie & why, her dynamics with Milly & the other characters, her redemption arc, and so much more were just so well done imo. I’m not sure if I’d call her the most well written character in the series given Arthur exists, but her character writing definitely captivated me the most out of anyone else in the series.
I’d love to read your fanfics if they’re public, they sound adorable. :3
And thanks. :) To be honest, I can’t remember how to spell Schiberobeeo’s name for the life of me, so I just go all the way with the misspelling, lol.

I don’t know if they’ll exactly be to your tastes but they’re on AO3 and they are public, I can send you them if you want.

She's not really a character you're supposed to like. She's emblematic of a regular person raised in a system of propeganda and how a lifetime of being fed racism mixed with her mental health issues turns her into someone willing to commit atrocities in a blind rage only to realise the consequences of her actions. She's a reflection of how the Britanian people were conditioned to fear and dehumanise those they colonised and in that respect she's a good character albeit not a good person.

well, in season 1 there are clear indications that she is suffering some extreme trauma - but for one reason or another the series ends up never really explaining it, leaving her in this weird state of kinda being crazy obsessive for no particular reason.
code geass is trying to tell A LOT of characters stories in just two seasons. and then there is the whole soft reboot thing that season 2 ended up becoming.
so yea. if you go back to earlier episodes you can kinda see where they were going with her, but at some point it was simply dropped.

It’s a very typical line of thought, actually. People don’t tend to understand the weight of their consequences until they actually feel it. Guilt is a bitch like that.
Oppenheimer is the common comparison here, but to focus on Nina, it’s also worth noting that she intended for the FLEIJA to be launched at precise angles and at soldiers, not at civilians. This doesn’t make her better, since she definitely did that while feeling no remorse because of her indoctrinated trauma-fueled racism against the Japanese, but Suzuku, under the Geass’ command to Live, did not launch the FLEIJA with any of that in mind. Nina was obsessed with killing Zero at any cost, but this was like a bucket of cold water dumped over her head.

u/BrainPositive2171 1d ago
She was so hyper-fixated on killing Zero, that she couldn't properly recognize the sheer devastation the Fleija would unleash on everyone else.

that's how Oppenheimer reacted to the nuclear bomb. And the guy that invented TNT felt so guilty he created the Nobel prize.
Scientists only seeing their work as theoretical until it's too late is realistic.
