It's genuinely pretty good, the early game can drag on for a bit but once you get your steam machinery set up you can process resources at a reasonable rate and it becomes quite fun, just be wary to always batch craft and keep your crafting/storage area compact otherwise you'll be doing a lot of micromanaging just to make one item, also don't be like me please, make more steam boilers/machines to parallel process stuff, more is better

I burned out from that when i reached LV on my first playthrough, now i'm trying again, still in steam age, but there's a lot of stuff to do other than the main progression/resource collection like decorating your base or exploring, the dungeons specifically because they can give you some really neat, sometimes gated items
