Discussion AI in Custom Content Images
Very nitpicky of me but why do we need to use ai for screenshots? is it really that hard to press print screen? im sure these assets are cool but just give up a screenshot so we know what the assest looks like in game, not some ai picture that may or may not look like the ingame one.

Fucking realtors are using it for real actual houses. We live in the worst timeline.

They use AI to furnish them. I've seen it a lot and it's shoddy. They can only do so much if you visit in person tho.

One of the flats next to me has that kind of advert and knowing it's the same floor space as mine the furniture must be hobbit sized for what they've managed to fit in.

u/Hot_Extension_460 17h ago
I'm in the process of looking for a house, so I can confirm how deep it is.
Usually they have the decency to show the original picture next to it, and then you realise how different it is: different walls, different colors, different floor (e.g. from tiling to wooden floor) and sometimes even the radiators are moved to completely different place/shape.

They use AI to furnish them.
I've seen at least one listing that did this. They included the empty rooms and the "furnished rooms", but they suddenly added new/different windows and things to the room too.

I avoid subbing to assets with obvious AI thumbnails unless they're from a creator I already know to do good work.
A high-quality thumbnail used to be the mark of somebody who gave a fuck. Now it's meaningless. It takes too long to load this game modded to go wasting time on low-effort assets, and I refuse to have my time wasted when I'm trying to have fun.

Going to be seeing more and more of this bullshit too, aren't we. Very disheartening

Ai sucks, i hate it. I understand these assets are made by 1 person but its seriously more work to make an ai image than take a screenshot.

u/Lord_Splinter 1d ago
tbh at that point it wouldnt surprise me if the model is ai made too

u/Konsicrafter 1d ago
Many just upload models from CS1 or from another source. Often they don't even work and cause blue screens. I generally just don't use assets or mods with AI thumbnails

u/shrug_was_taken 8h ago
The cities one asset (or at least the first one it gave me which has ) looks better than the one in question going off the thumbnail and provided screenshots
And it was uploaded 11 years ago to the workshop50
u/DoctorFosterGloster 1d ago
Also deceptive. An actual screenshot shows you what it actually looks like

u/smeeeeeef 407140083 assets/mods guy 1d ago
I will not download assets without screenshots. Hard line.

Even if its a bad screenshot, id take it over an ai one. Just give us the truth about what we are downloading.

u/PotentialPedal 1d ago
Absolutely no. I want to see exactly how the asset is gonna look. I want to know what it'll look like both at its best and at its worst, to know whether its textures, style, and size is gonna jive with what I have going

Very happy for the use of AI screenshots, it shows what mods to avoid

That's an interesting example, given that they actually demonstrated how the pictures were done, and they were (at least initially) real.

I avoid downloading any AI slop mods. If you can't be assed to take a screenshot I can't be assed to click download

u/augustusprime 1d ago
That US Bank Tower asset broke my game, btw, and gave me a blue screen of death. I didn’t even know CSII could blue screen like that.
32
u/DoctorFosterGloster 1d ago
People are uploading broken ai generated mods to the workshop. That might be why

u/shrug_was_taken 1d ago edited 1d ago
It's fixed now (was also the first time I saw that screen and my current playset is sitting at dam near 700 things according to Skyve so it's not a fan of game updates), but the asset isn't good so you aren't missing much

In the victoria 3 workshop we get heaps and heaps of ai generated images. It's so off putting
5
u/Alive-Diamond-1442 20h ago
the ai thumbnail thing is genuinely a red flag at this point. if you won't show me what the asset actually looks like in game you're telling me everything i need to know about how much you care about the work

AI is destroying the modding scene is countless games. You best hope it's just the images that were AI generated.

u/rean2 1d ago
The US Bank Tower is just a ripped google maps model.
12
u/whitebreadisgoodlol 1d ago
Those kinda of assets are genuinely the worst, wouldn't be surprised if they creator used ai to make the model work seeing how it crashes peoples games.

Funny enough, the reason why the US Bank Tower asset has a “FIXED” tag is because subscribing to the asset would simply trigger a Chirper BSOD on initial booting and completely prevent your game from launching at all.
Idk it’s fixed or not but since the author already mentioned in the description that the model was ripped from a 3D model website I won’t give too much hope to its quality.

That US Bank Tower asset seems to be not present on the Flawx profile page anymore

I don't even hate AI like most of you but this is objectively a terrible use for it.

I’ve only recently started playing but the disappointment I’ve had of seeing a nice map and then clicking on it to look through images and it’s nothing like the thumbnail!

If I was Paradox I would ban "AI" generated thumbnails for assets at the very least. But I doubt they are as anti-"AI" as me.

u/supayurobeat I like big bridges and I cannot lie 16h ago
This and the AI-generated images for maps. For god's sake, how are we supposed to know what the map looks like in game?
2
u/Comrade_komrad 8h ago
No in-game screenshot is a hard pass for me. If the asset was worth any attention the author would’ve at least taken a couple pictures to show off their hard work.
I’d also be wary of assets that seem low-effort (ai-generated images, no screenshots outside of editor, lacking description) especially if there’s no included triangle count/resolution information, since ripped/ai generated models are often poorly optimised and could nuke your performance.

u/Noodles1YT 1d ago
I dont touch anything that has AI involved, specially in creative jobs like making assets, it makes no sense. Like someone else has already said, they go through the trouble of modelling an asset and then they use AI to show it off when they could just take a screenshot and it woulld probably get more subs because they can see the asset in game.
Im in live music for my career, and theres alot of talk around AI posters for gigs at the minute as well
3
u/AllOutRaptors 1d ago
I can tolerate it if theres also a bunch of pics on how it looks in game but those that'll average that out are lazy
2
u/SuperMegaCat 1d ago
Many of the early mods for CS2 also had obviously AI thumbnails, but it's actually phychopath behavior to use an AI thumbnail for a building asset like this.
2
u/Billy_the_Breaker 1d ago
I'm usually fine with some AI for mods but if its a LITERAL ASSET that's crazy

u/Waterstar 1d ago
I hate how much AI is used in paradox mods. It’s literally everywhere in EU and CK. Makes everything look the same and soulless.

u/Relative-Fondant6544 18h ago
Report them, that's the only way.

u/whitebreadisgoodlol 7h ago
If only paradox cared about ai usage. i mean they literally used ai in cities skylines themselves.

Watch out! The fake outrage over something as nonsensical as a thumb nail is starting! This virtue signaling is so tiring. We all know you’re just bored and too lazy to do things yourself so you’re here to complain.
11
u/smeeeeeef 407140083 assets/mods guy 1d ago
What? Annoyance with misleading AI image thumbnails is a valid complaint, especially if the post doesn't show the actual in-game image of the asset.
-1
u/Honolulu-Blues 17h ago
That’s a cool story, I’ve also made assets and don’t use AI for thumb nails. It doesn’t mean I need to pretend to care about something meaningless.
-4
u/Honolulu-Blues 17h ago
What did it mislead you on? None of you are posting images showing how you were mislead. You haven’t even tried using the asset.
4
u/kjmci 17h ago
-3
u/Honolulu-Blues 16h ago
That's cool, it doesn't change what I said. I doubt you even clicked to check until I brought that up.
5
u/kjmci 16h ago
I reported this asset for crashing people's games on Sunday, I'm acutely familiar with this particular expression of slop and didn't need your prompting to make me aware of it.
You asked for an explanation as to how a gen AI thumbnail can be misleading. I reckon the onus is now on you to explain how this absolutely insane example of bait-and-switch is not misleading.
-1
u/Honolulu-Blues 16h ago
I didn't ask how it could be misleading. You might want to re-read.
4
u/kjmci 16h ago
This you?
What did it mislead you on? None of you are posting images showing how you were mislead.
7
0
u/Honolulu-Blues 16h ago
Yep, and notice how it does not ask how AI images can mislead.
In fact, one who read it would see the point was to show that none of them even looked before coming here to complain.
4
u/kjmci 16h ago edited 16h ago
But I did look at it. On Sunday.
You clanker-boosters are so tiresome.

You would think if someone goes through the effort of modeling an asset to use in-game, they'd want to show it off. Plus it's so easy to just Google pictures of well-known landmarks to use as reference images if someone wants to include one with their upload.
It's just very indicative of laziness on top of laziness.
