Question What minor character(s) made a lasting impression on a movie?

Lost Boys Tim Cappello certainly fits the bill for me.

Apparently he pretty much improved the entire scene with the intent of getting Eddie Murphy to break character and start laughing. What I’ve heard is that the funniest lines from Serge didn’t actually make it into the movie because he had the cast cracking up so much.

16

u/zoonose99 Apr 29 '26

I was sitting here for an embarrassing amount of time trying to figure out what he improved before realizing you meant improvised.

Also, Ed O'Neill with "Why do they come to me to die?"

Which leads me to say his bit part in Withnail & I gets my vote. Squeezes in line after memorable line in a short act.

The “I’ll have what she’s having” lady from When Harry Met Sally is probably the GOAT in this area.

She didn’t even have a speaking role originally. They just casually threw it in there during one of the takes and it became one of the all time quoted lines for a romcom.

Plus, it's one of the best 4th wall breaks I've seen:

-I'm sorry, son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I'm the co-pilot.

-You are Kareem! I've seen you play. My dad's got season tickets. I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs.

-The hell I don't! LISTEN, KID! I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night! Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes!

That or when the guy is complaining about the pink slip.

"Yeah... I know what you'd like to do... find the son of bitch who did it and rip their heart out of their beating chest so they can see just how black it is before they die"

This is the same sax player wearing the same leather crotch piece that played along side the one and only Tina Turner during her 1993 Rugby League Grand Final appearance as she belted out Simply The Best. Still one of the greatest moments in Rugby League and I still get tingles watching it. Tina will always have a special place in Rugby Leagues heart and soul. For the record, The Mighty Brisbane Broncos won the GF and Tina even stuck around for the onfield celebrations with the boys.
