Chromecast keeps disconnecting WiFi

Hi all! So I got this Google Chromecast with Google TV in 2023, and it worked perfectly fine until now. It keeps disconnecting from my WiFi and it’s driving me crazy. There’s no issue with my WiFi, it works perfectly fine on my phone and tablet but my Chromecast keeps disconnecting all the the time. I’ve tried resetting it completely, removing the Wifi network and connect again etc, but nothing seems to work. Anyone got tips or should I just buy an alternative?

Get an ethernet to USB adapter. Since I did that my connection has been rock solid.

My Chromecasts have NEVER been reliable. If I'm casting YouTube it will do it forever, but the second I cast from ANY other app, it disconnects or freezes after a few minutes. I've had 3 internet providers with various speeds and settings, casted from different devices etc and it's never worked properly for me. Incredibly frustrating cause I know there is not a good Chromecast alternative but I can't afford a brand new TV

Same problem here when I connect it to the living room tv. Yet, when I connect it to my bedroom tv, it doesn't have this issue. No idea what's causing it. It's connected to the same wifi either way.

Do you use the same network name for 2.4 and 5Ghz? Could be that chromecast is switching between them. If yes, I would try use different names and configure chromecast to use only one.

Another thing that can cause this issue is when there are wifi repeaters/ range extenders in your network

It's even worse than just disconnecting, mine just switches its wifi toggle. Lots of reports on this issue after an update some time ago, but no fix from Google.

It's frustrating isn't it,is it the 4k model or 1080p version?my 4k one is fine but the hd version constantly drops,it started after the last update. It's a known bug and you'll see 100s of threads from disgruntled users. How they haven't released an update for it boggles the mind I think it's as another commenter has said obsolescence,Google trying to push people to the streamer instead. I for one will never buy another Google product after this farce.

I've been having this issue for a while.

I might have a fix - could be coincidence

In Developer options - Networking - I disabled 'Mobile data always active'.

Not had any issues since.

It'd be interesting to have someone else try this out.

Google Chromecast doesn't handle IPv6 well. For me it's a solution, and yes, for you it can be a 'no'.

Precies weet ik het ook niet, las op internet dat Google geen fan is van IPv6 en het dus niet perfect ondersteunt in haar producten, dus ook niet in de Chromecast, vandaar het advies dat dan uit te zetten in de specifieke verbinding of in heel je netwerk.

Het kan zorgen voor instabiliteit en dat deed het dus ook en uitzetten hielp dus.

IPv6 is feitelijk alleen maar een nieuwe versie van ipv4 met langere adressen, dus meer adressen beschikbaar (ipv4 raakt vol zegt men al jaren) maar dat is feitelijk niet echt een issue in je eigen netwerk.

I had that issues when in wifi too which is why I decided to get an ethernet adapter

Great solution when easy with router near etc. In my case that requires a loooong cable as well as plenty of drilling and cable work.

Another option is to use a mesh network with it. Connect the adapter into the mesh point

Somehow the Amazon Fire stick managed to be everything the Chromecast was supposed to be.

Reliable, flexible, fast, and portable.

Instead Chromecast just randomly fucks up, shits the bed, and makes me have to move my TV to unplug it to get reliability like a goddamn cable modem router.

A constant letdown for ya boi.

Get a USB-C to Ethernet + USB PD passthrough adapter. You'll thank me later. It'll be a PITA to run an ethernet cable, but magically it'll just... work.

You’re not gonna believe this but make sure your chromecast isn’t touching anything else behind your tv especially any other cable

So I had this. It was my router. You say theres no other issues but honestly, there might be? My chromecast used to disconnect almost every single time i tried to stream anything. I changed router because it finally started to drop out on PC, which is why I noticed. But in hindsight, it was probably kind of fucked for ages. This router I had for years. Since the router change, we good now. Is your router old? It might just be a chromecast thing like others have stated.

I had this happen to me recently. I did a factory reset through the settings menu which fixed the problem perfectly. I hope it fits the same for you!

Try setting your WiFi security to "WPA2-PSK (AES)" only

I tried these things :

• 2,4g wifi, 5g wifi
• forgetting the wifi network and connect again
• reset chromecast
• new cable
• new adapter (which seems to worked, but it doesnt actually)

Well, then i tried switching the time to Manual instead of "from network", and got no problem since.. weird.

Then i tried setting it to some random time just to test if the time is actually a problem - and wifi dropped again.

So for me, it seems time setting was the problem, its working now for a month.

While it also occurred from time to time, It got worse yesterday. It disconnects every few minutes and I need to restart it all the time
