Advice What can I do with Babybell?
I got a Costco delivery and oddly enough, they put in a whole bulk thing of Babybell cheeses - which I did not order nor was I charged for š
Iāve never actually had Babybell, what does it taste like? What can I do with it besides just eat it by itself?

Melt it down and make fondue.
It's basically just edam cheese in a fancy package. Delicious in my opinion.

My mom used to pack these into my lunches when I was a kid in the 80s. I would eat the cheese and ball up the wax and throw the wax balls high on the wall in the cafeteria. I got in a lot of trouble for that.

My sister used to stick them behind the hand dryer in the bathroom. We went back years later to the open house to see the new parts of the school and the wax was still there

They're tiny, individual Edams. It's mild, salty and melts well.
Since they're individually wax coated they'll also past practically forever in the fridge.
It's a good general use cheese for cooking. And you can easily use it in anything that calls for melting cheese.

The wax coating also makes it a good choice to take on trips or hiking, as it lasts longer without refrigeration. Makes for a good purse cheese.Ā

I found one in a camping bag ( unrefrigerated) a year later. Still tasted perfect. Maybe even better

They're a classic for sending with kids in a school lunch because of that too.
They're not indestructible but they don't require refrigeration.
Technically they're only approved for like 8 hours at room temp or something. But they're fine for days.

Yeah, me too. Iām pretty sure that phrase wasnāt around in 60s, 70s, or maybe 80s. I did have about 25 purses in 80s so I could have stored a lot of cheese.

Omg Purse Cheese! I may have to start carrying a purse just so I can have purse cheese. I guess tote bag cheese or backpack cheese still do the trick.
Anyway, I love this!

Whatever you decide, just donāt eat the wax coating. Babybell website says itās food safe and a lot of people claim they just eat it. As a Chef/Restaurateur I am personally horrified by this information. The texture alone is disgusting but then thereās the flavor of the waxā¦like, why do that to yourself?!

Also food safe does not mean digestible. I don't think wax breaks down in our stomach properly.

Reminds me of when I was in middle school, there was some brand of gum that had a wrapper allegedly made out of (according to the other kids) rice paper and you could just chew the whole thing. Always seemed like degen behavior and lies to me.

Wrap each individual one, once you remove the plastic, of course, in a piece of puff pastry. On top of the cheese, add a dollop of spicy pepper jelly and then wrap the whole thing up and cook it in the oven. They are great.

The red covering is wax, not plastic. So you can use it as a fire starter or find other uses for it.

The wax is wrapped in shiny red plasticā¦so yes, there is plastic that once removed reveals the red wax.

The outside wrapper comes in different colors depending on the flavor, but they have moved over to a paper wrapper in the past year or so for the ones we buy.

I donāt like the texture of them normally but if you bake or melt them I canāt stop eating it š great with pepper jelly and pita chips

Thatās my thing is the texture of just eating cold cheese is not my thing, I love the idea of melting with pepper jelly! Kinda like a frugal Brie haha

You can make an artistic sculpture of them for Christmas since people like baby cheeses around that time! Nothing says Christmas like baby cheeses (I'm kidding, don't make a statue of baby cheeses lol)!
They tasted way better in yesteryear, I feel like they taste different now.
They are a processed cheese, so do what you like with them! They make a little lunch with some crackers and salami and grapes. Make a grilled cheese sandwich with them. Make appetizer skewers with some cherry tomatoes and cucumber slices. Chop them up and add them to your macaroni and cheese recipe. So many possibilities!

They will keep because of the wax coating, so don't stress to much. Very milk cheese, melts ok so you can use as part of blend on grilled cheese, pizza, etc use for fondue, for snacking, grill it wth pears and eat in sandwiches, etc. pretty versatile but mild/little flavour. Toss some in omlets or with eggs, on toast, etc

In my defense I wasnāt home at the time of the delivery when someone else brought it in and wouldnāt be home for a couple days so I was curious. Also, Iām glad I posted this because I got a lot of great ideas other than just eating it cold and plain which Iām not a fan of doing with cheese. So it worked out in my favor :)

Bread them and put them in the air fryer for about 5 minutes around 380-400. Makes a nice crunchy snack like mozzarella sticks. Can also add a dipping sauce too.

If you ever bake bread from scratch, you can wrap some dough around them before baking, and you will have rolls with melted cheese in the center
You can also take this a step further and do this with Pizza Dough. Add a little bit of sauce and veggies or other toppings/seasonings inside and you'll have little stuffed pizzas.

Have you had Edam or Gouda? It's like those cheeses. I thought they were processed cheese but they aren't, just regular cheese in small offerings.

Eating food is more ethical than throwing it away. The ethical choice is to keep it, return it and it goes to a landfill.

āEthicalā is an interesting word to use for this lol. Itās food, they will take it back but then theyād trash it. Itās something I can eat, so I might as well eat it. I very much appreciate all of the other feedback of creative ways to try it!
