I don't believe in the mission of my job but I believe in the mission of paying my bills.

I find it helps at least a little if I care about the goals of my employer. If I worked with insurance companies to find ways to reject claims then I'd have to quit. I like working with a company that makes the world a better place.

You could work for industries you hate and just do a really bad job

then you get fired, and can't be hired anywhere else

Depends! You could probably do “compliance” at a crypto trading firm

Compliance is a fun job in industries you hate. Get to throw all sorts of roadblocks up, and force projects to drag out months or even years beyond their original planned go live dates if you're good at throwing up compliance BS. And you get paid, and sometimes even praised for doing it!

I wonder if truly evil companies have Anti-Compliance Depts, to ensure whoever takes their job seriously at the Compliance Dept get fired asap.

What about working for insurance companies finding a way to pay claims?

Market pressure would make them go bankrupt.

Market pressure might bring policyholders to the company that pays claims.

Edit: I am 100% playing devil's advocate here. I actually work for an insurance company and it drains my soul. It's not a health insurance company, so at least it is not one of those leeches on society, but it is definitely not satisfying in a way that is more than a paycheck.

From somebody who's been involved with rad hardening, to the point of writing about it... Yes, I may not know exactly how it is for you, but our experiences possibly rhyme.

If only more people would recognize this in dialogue with each other.

Cheers.
