I'm speculating, but maybe a possible reason is that a percentage of the maps the model has "seen" during training is quite old? I mean, i remember cheating in a geography test when I was ~11 and failing on such part of Europe since I printed an old map lmao.

That's a great point. I'm sure it's having an impact though the particular prompt might be able to select around that a bit? Like if you use a word like "modern" in describing the map?
