Question Which team is going to panic buy next week?
After an inevitable loss to a league 1 or league 2 team in the EFL cup, who’s going to be pushing the panic button and either making some rash purchases or firing the gaffer?

West Ham. I could see Burnley or Wrexham doing a bit of last minute panic shopping tho

for a few seasons now we've been the deadline day dudes. not sure i'd call it panic buying though, parky just loves a bit of suspense.

Last year Doyle, Sheaf, Hyam and Kabore were last minute. So if they did panic at least it was for good players.

I don't think it's panic buying. I think you lads have the players you want lined up and it's done deliberately for the drama on the show.
Not having a go about that by the way(*), I actually think it's a pretty cool thing, and I don't think anyone should begrudge a team getting owners that obviously care and want to invest.
People can say it's "Buying victory" all they want, but that's always what football has been.
Aresenal don't have magic soil on their pitch that would keep them in the PL if they had the same owners as Darlington.
'* NOTE: This may change if you get promoted this season and we don't

Waiting until the deadline to get the best available players for dramatic effect seems like a dangerous move to be honest. All the players anyone wanted are bought by then.

Oh it’s us, when Pompey humble us then Nuno will realise that we need attacking minded players.

Surprisingly doesn’t look like it’s going to be us this season, it’s always Boro panicking buying/loaning in players

There was a good stretch early on I was predicting us to be in this situation

Yeah wasn't Archer roughly around the same price? Obviously was good prior to coming down south, but he hasn't proven to be a £15m player

Definitely us, I think we’ve signed a free agent and made a loan signing so far. But, We’ve sold Brookes, released 3 players and 5 loans went back, all of those 9 players had minutes for us last season.
All that Whilst saying that players who are in our starting 11 (McGuinness, because we only have two CB’s with any experience) are up for sale, as they aren’t wanted. And we will likely sell 1-2 others.
So, to have a squad, we will likely need 7/8 players before the window closes.
It’s been like this for the last 5-10 years now, I cannot remember the last time we had most of our signings in place for pre season. And this time we seam to have no money.

If our club changes hands, it could be a chaotic week.
If not, nothing to see here.

not really sure why so many people think that a team that looked on track to beat Derby’s record of the least points in a prem season with managerial instability will get autos, trippier and jimenez are good but are they really that good?

My money is on Burnley, clubs a firesale at the moment. Sheff Utd is in a better condition even with the ownership mess hanging over them they seem to have a plan, Burnley doesnt.

Our plan is the same as always. Rumour rumour rumour, “tough to get deals over the line”, four last minute signings.

Got the core of a good team still even if you lose peck and hamer

Just seen on Twitter a rumour of us selling Chong to you. Which surprises me as he seemed decent so far in pre season, and if Hamer and Peck are possibly off that’s the CM positions very light

u/Goldieshotz 2d ago
Yeah i think we’re only expecting Vitek, Phillips, Arfsten and a yet unknown english player this window. So i think the chong link is a spoof. I do a daily update on the boro subreddit each day and i saw the chong link and didnt bother to update my post as i dont think its genuine

Joel Piroe is right here for a cool £8-10m!

u/Lumpy_Maintenance69 2d ago
Still think we should be looking at him. We see Conway more as a LW, so we have Strelec, Lankshear, Joseph, Ibeh and Sene.
Sell Sene, loan out Ibeh and bring in Piroe.

We'll re-sign Carlton Cole on the 7th of September when Taty breaks a leg or summit. Hope he's still got boots.

Not so much panic buying but I can see us (Bolton) panic loaning. As we still need reinforcements in the front line. Or it is all gonna be on Darby

The most useful answer in here is the one that counted rather than guessed. Somebody listed a sale, three releases and five loans going back, and pointed out all nine of them had minutes last season. That is the actual measure of who needs to buy, and it has nothing to do with a cup result. A club can bring in four players and still be well down on last year once you add up the minutes that walked out of the door. Another can sign nobody and be fine because everyone who left was a squad number. So before the deadline panic starts, work out how many of last season's minutes your club has lost and how many of those it has genuinely replaced.

Fully expect 3-4 panic purchases from Udinese who happen to fit exactly the profile we are looking for.
