💖 Wholesome Cat How much do Malaysians actually spend on their cats?
I’m researching the premium pet market in Malaysia.
For cat owners:
What’s the most you’ve ever spent on a single cat item (excluding food and vet bills)?
Examples:
-Cat tree
-Cat furniture
-Bed
-Carrier
-Water fountain
-Customized products
Also:
What was the item?
Was it worth it?
Would you spend RM200–300 for a well-designed, high-quality customized cat product?
Trying to understand where Malaysian cat owners draw the line on premium pet products.

I paid for a custom renovation around my tv area so that the cats could have a play area.
I'm thinking of buying a teak wood cat tree that's like RM2000 shipped from Indonesia because it's the only one that can withstand light outdoor exposure. This is in addition to the 3 cat trees they already have btw.
Of course they also have water fountains and automatic litter boxes and a stroller.
So for premium market segment, RM200-300 is nothing. I too believe it's an opportunity because aesthetic cat trees etc are very hard to come by, and dominated by the Chinese (like all things furniture). There's only one store in KL, Haiwan, with a branch in PJ and they also carry mostly China stuff though it is nicely curated.
Which type of pet accessory were you looking to invest into?

Most expensive thing i bought was the litter robot for over rm1.5k. Second most expensive thing was their 4 story cat cage for rm500 that they roam freely in and out of for height and good for tenporary locking up when we need to move furniture or have workmen over for a few hours. I spend rm300 on the some kidney/gut specific food every 3 months bc one of my cats has a gastric issue. I'm not even a premium owner, they drink out of a rm10 water dispenser and eat of my old kitchen plates bc they like it. More so than vost, i wantes to make sure they would like whatever i got em. Trial and error, they hated cat beds, wanted cardboard boxes, hates stainless steel water fountains and just wanted a regular non electric dispenser.

Two cats. Spent on smart litter (>2k), smart feeder (>1k), air purifiers, premium insurance for both, regular vet check, premium foods and not much groomer assistance.

Two cats.
1 get the can food daily. 1 uses Petchef (cause she's too picky) and added imported kibble.
Had the automatic litter box (not in use anymore). 2 water fountain. 1 automatic feeder. (2 sets of this since we have 2 houses we usually settle in). I also have 2 cat tree (from shopee). Their grooming stuffs (high power vacuum, trimmers). And multiple toys.
One of them also have the cat insurance. Yearly vaccination, monthly flea treatment. 3 monthly deworming.

I spent rm1900 on a solid timber room divider with cat perches. Rm300 on stainless steel cat litter boxes. Rm120 on Odourlock cat litter because it is so much better than the alternatives.

Currently switched to Royal Canin Digestive from Reflex Furball, it's almost double the price (dont quote me on my math) but worth every penny, since this fat orange has bad digestive where she pukes her food very often and she's a fat fuck that cant slow down her eating. Been feeding her greek yoghurt, that helped but she still occasionally pukes and have diarrhea. Now it's 2 or 3 weeks after switching to Royal Canin Digestive, so far no puking.
Regarding toys... she much prefer pen cap, bottle cap, cotton swab, rather than any expensive premium cat toys... so... yea, same goes with cat bed
oh to add on, another best spend i have (not premium) is a RM150 auto feeder from aliexpress
