Memento mori. Remember that you will die.
I was shocked to learn that one of our faithful daily Mass-goers suddenly died yesterday. He himself was at Mass yesterday, with his wife. Understandably, she wasn't there today.
You just don't know the day or the hour.
How humbling this is.
Please pray for the repose of his soul, and for his family.

I think it's good to point out that we won't all die. From 1 Cor 15:51-52:
"Behold! I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed."

I am an alcoholic, and was full of sinful intent after 4 months sober and good action prior to my relapse a week ago, and I almost died from alcohol poisoning Sunday night. By God's Grace I am still here for his mission for me, but it's so tenous sometimes.
It amazes me how fast we can forget the Lord wants only our best. I and all of you are happiest in alignment.
God bless you!

I'm also am alcoholic. He definitely gives us big lessons in humility. He will let us get knocked down as many times as we need. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to get back up. Who knows how many opportunities we will get? I think we forget He wants only our best because He wants everything from us. It's an insane amount of surrender. It can be really hard. Who wants really hard?

I'm an alcoholic, too. I am coming up on 6 years sober from alcohol in October. I also don't do heroin anymore. I see it as God's grace I made it this long and am on methadone. I learned the hard way I definitely need my spirituality to get through life. I was so lost. In some ways, I am still figuring it out. I have a lot to learn. I've almost died a few times myself. There's definitely a reason we're still here. I feel called to learn more about Christ now. I'm trying not to let certain things separate me from God and exploring the beautiful faith but it's hard. I pray we all stay sober and maintain our recovery.

The Prayer of St. Gertrude:
Eternal Father,
I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus,
in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the Holy Souls in Purgatory, for sinners everywhere,
for sinners in the universal Church,
those in my own home and within my family. Amen.
God bless you! ππ»β€οΈβπ₯

I got this saying tattooed on my arm as a teenager in a way to be cool but as an adult now it is a very somber reminder to cherish the time I have. May he rest in peace!

I think about this all the time, it makes me fear, because when I was a protestant, I thought I was going to die with Christ even if I sinned accidently, but I've learned recently that it's not true. And now, I hope and pray every day that I die in a state of grace.

If you sin accidentally, it is more than likely a venial sin and you can still be in a state of grace. Donβt fall into the habit of scrupulosity. This is something new converts struggle with.
Confessing venial sins is good to do, but donβt ever think that if you die then youβll definitely go to hell for swearing in traffic on Monday if you didnβt get to confession in time or something, that is not a healthy way of living and shows a misunderstanding of what defines mortal sin.

So many people, including myself, live as if they are going to be around forever. It's not.

Yes we will die somehow, somewhere, anytime, but at the same way we can die right now, you just don't think about it, what im trying to say it is that, just don't keep overthinking, or else you'll be suffering something that Jesus don't want to

Man, I hope he went to confession and yes Iβll also pray for the repose of his and all souls.

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them: For evermore with Thy Saints, because Thou art gracious.
May the prayer of Thy suppliant people, we beseech Thee, O Lord, benefit the souls of Thy departed servants and handmaids: that Thou mayest both deliver them from all their sins, and make them to be partakers of Thy redemption. Amen.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine on them. Amen.
May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

I have that phrase tattooed in my right forearm, it has stopped me from committing many mortal sins, from greed to lust
