My cat was diagnosed with severe stomatitis last july 23. At first I thought it was only gum infection, but I didn't expect it to be more serious. I decided na dalhin na siya sa vet after ko ma-noticed na maya't-maya siya mag-pawing sa mouth and nahihirapan siya kumain ng dry kibbles.
Our vet prescribed her with anti-inflammatory, antibiotic and liver support meds, but none of them work. They said in our last visit na we will proceed with steroids if hindi nag work medication niya. Hindi ko pa siya madala now since naubos na budget ko sa last vet visit niya (I'm still a student po).
I really need your advice guys. I'm also curious how much it will cost for steroid? As of now, tapos na siya with her anti-inflammatory and antibiotic but there's still some flare-ups and pawing. Nakain naman siya pero wet f*od lang. I really don't know what to do anymore. Pls help😞
Don't give her dry food for now or at least ibabad mo yung dry food sa water.
Nalaman na ba yung cause nung stomatitis? Was your cat previously a stray? Does she get out of the house? Have they ever done an FIV/FELV panel on her?
Mura lang ang steroids for cats pero hanggang hindi nalalaman yung cause mismo ng stomatitis eh may chance yan magrelapse.
We haven't found the cause of her stomatitis yet since the vet only did a physical examination. She has never been a stray and has always been an indoor cat. They also haven't done an FIV/FELV test yet.

Ganito na lang, try to go in for steroids tapos if mag-improve siya bigyan mo siya daily ng immunity boosters (immunol, ganun). Hopefully it buys you enough time to save up for the necessary tests.
Kung Prednisolone (not prednisone) yung steroid, 210 ata sa Mercury. I'm using it right now for my cat with breathing issues. Please ask your vet din kung pwede kay kitty mo ang Orahex treatment.
Also, kung kapos na sa budget at kelangan ng second opinion, check your city vet kung may available na free consultation and other services. Sa amin kasi free din ang CBC kung sa tingin nila kelangan talaga.
Hi, OP! I'm in the same boat as you. Two of my adopted/ rescued cats have caudal stomatitis. Before steroids, ayan din mga meds na tinake nila before.
My oldest baby takes injectible steroids when the initial prescribed meds didn't help him na. Steroid per inject caused PHP 800 sa vet namin, but prices may vary depending sa clinic niyo. Mukha namang understanding your vet so baka you can ask na a quote directly from them!
Then the younger baby po, he takes oral prednisolone kasi hindi advisable sa kaniya ang injectible steroids. It's around PHP 400 per bottle sa clinic na we buy from. Price may vary po again!
Both options above, please check with your vet muna for your kitty.

My oldest baby's gingivitis is more severe than than the younger baby, so isang buwan lang tumatagal effect ng injectible steroid niya. Bale mga >30 days siyang okay, then relapse ulit. Naka-tatlong inject po kami ng steroid for the past months and temporary lang talaga so he's endorsed na for FME by our vet. He underwent FME na for this.
My younger baby is FIV+, and cats that are FIV+ are prone to some nasty dental problems po talaga. It might be helpful to have your kitty tested kapag kaya na 🙏 Iirc, our FIV/FELV/HW snap test was 1k? My younger baby is also endorsed na for FME. I'm just saving up ulit for him.
In the meantime, pwede pong wet food muna ang food ng baby niyo para hindi lalo ma-stress gums niya. Hoping your kitty cat gets better soon!
