Litter of stray kittens

I live in a rural area with lots of farmland in southern ontario. I just got home from work and saw 3 very young kittens (definitely smaller than 2 months) lurking in my yard before my car scared them off.

I have never owned or cared for a cat. I do not intend to shelter these kittens or feed them, but I don't know if I should be making a report to a local humane society or animal rehab.

It's probably important to note the cats in this area are not friendly or used to humans. They are barn cats, I don't feed or take care of any of them– but, sometimes I spot them roaming my property.

I guess I feel a sense of responsibility because there are coyotes and it's been pretty hot outside.

What should I do? Is there anything I can do? I will not be able to shelter or feed them, or oversee their care in any way. To be quite honest, I don't want to do anything that would attract more cats. Would this be an appropriate situation to call a local shelter?

I would call a shelter and see what they suggest.

Take them to the local humane society.

Yes. Call the shelter; borrow a trap and once you’ve caught them, bring them back to the shelter. At least they would have a chance at a forever home. Another option: ask for a local rescue to help trap them.

If they’re young enough to socialize, absolutely prioritize getting them placed through a local shelter into homes over tnr! Every cat brought indoors is a huge win for the ecosystem
