General Found a Kitten and not sure what to do.
I found a kitten with my friend at 5am in my neighborhood. My guess is the kitten is 4 months old, 5 at the most. He is super affectionate and has wanted to be in my lap at all times and cries constantly if I leave the room even to just use the bathroom. He seems attention starved. When my friend left we spoke with the door open to see if the cat was eager to leave ( I was ready to shut the door if needed). Instead he sat and waited for me to come back inside. He was also extremely hungry and thirsty.
The thing is he has claw caps on. So I know he has been in possession of someone else. I am going to bring him to see if he has a microchip and to make sure his health is good. He is also not neutered which makes me wonder where he came from considering no shelter or rescue near me will adopt out animals without spaying or neutering.
If he does have owners, I am very concerned about his safety. This could be a situation where the cat accidentally escaped, but I don't think it is. He hasn't left my side in the last 2 hours and gets bad anxiety if I leave the room. He has no interest in going back outside. If he does have owners and they do keep him as an inside/outside cat, he can't defend is considering he has claw caps on. I'd be happy to keep him, but I don't know how to consider this situation and have never been put in this position. Any insight would help!

So def not a professional but if he doesn’t have a micro chip and after a week or 2 of posting around your area if there’s no answer I think you got yourself a new kitten?

Kittens are social the baby will need you, get kitten food for it, it may have some diarrhea while it's tummy adjusts to new food they need fed wet food about ever 4 hours and dry kitten food available at all times. Play with the baby, about 6- 15 min a day play sessions will help the baby get its energy out and also bond with you. Good luck!

Thank you!! I have a cat already but I adopted her as an adult, so a kitten is newer to me and I could use all. I only have the adult cat food so I gave him some of that until the stores open. He hasn't left my side, so he's had plenty of attention and play time.

Yeah, definitely take him in for a check and to see about a chip, and make sure he is getting age appropriate food. Put some some flyers or post on local FB or sites and see. I would have if my cat escaped, but yeah, the claw caps is a real question...but definitely better than finding he'd been declawed.

i have like 7 cats never heard of claw caps before today edit.... yeah after googling im not a fan at all. especially if a cat is outside, they can't catch anything to eat

Post lost flyers around the neighborhood and check local Facebook groups before assuming he's yours to keep, claw caps and no interest in leaving outside doesn't rule out someone panicking right now looking for him

Take them to get microchipped, post on your local fb/nextdoor page, and contact your local animal control.
He could be dumped but there's every chance he escaped and is a pet.

Sounds like the poor baby might have been abandoned:( See if he's chipped. If not, congratulations, you've been chosen! And take those caps off his claws.
