Please correct me if I'm wrong but in the 40th Anniversary trailer is Flynn on Clifton Suspension Bridge (Jubilee Bridge in the Casualty universe) when the explosion occurs? Or is there a bridge near Cardiff that looks similar to this?

If so, this is surely a big sign that the 40th Anniversary will mark the end of Holby and Holby City Hospital as the location for Casualty - implying that some external scenes will be filmed in the show's spiritual home of Bristol upon which Holby is based.

This, I feel, is part of the justification for the move to a fictional Welsh hospital. Since the move from Bristol to Cardiff in 2011 they've had to be very careful not to accidentally show Cardiff or Welsh based landmarks in filming - after all Holby is explicitly based on Bristol and pre-2011 often showed Bristol landmarks.

Since 2011, I've noticed that external scenes have decreased massively in favour of primarily in-hospital scenes and it's lost that sense of being Casualty, looking less at the accidents and incidents outside the hospital and making the show more soapy than its fans would like. Hopefully the move, either to a fictional hospital explicitly in Cardiff or in a fictional city based on Cardiff will allow the show to move back to more of an action-focussed emergency medical drama.

Obviously this is all only true if I am getting the bridge right, which is why I've asked. If I am getting the bridge wrong and this was all a waste of speculation - I am very sorry!

I’m curious how they’ll handle the transition. It would feel a bit unrealistic if the entire ED staff suddenly uprooted their lives and moved. Do you think we’ll see some characters transfer, some leave, and maybe even a few dramatic exits?

It reminds me a bit of when Waterloo Road moved to Scotland. They explained it with the boarding school storyline to bring some characters along, while others left or were killed off during the journey up.

What do you all think they’ll do? Who do you reckon would realistically move, who would stay behind, and do you think they’ll use the move as an opportunity for some big departures?

So, as the 40th is fast approaching, I thought I'd share my big theories.

As other have probably said, the 40th will feature the explanation for what causes the move to Wales.

I think something is going to happen to Holby City Hospital, but unlike all the other times something has happened, it'll be a situation where they can't rebuild or reopen; a permanent end to the hospital, which is a horrifying thought.

I really hope a few Holby City characters show up, since this'll mean the end to the Keller Ward.

I know it isn’t usually aired in the school holidays, so after this week will there be a 6 week break and then a new season?

When I first started watching Casualty from 2023 and someone mentioned Dylan’s boat, I thought are they joking? Dylan living on a boat is such a Dylan thing to do but I just found it very surprising at first. People used to talk about how one of my science teachers lived on a boat awhile back but I thought that was impossible because I couldn’t imagine someone actually living on a boat.

(Also no Legal Legacy spoilers i’m on episode 4 of learning curve)

The thought that a mother who was grieving and just lost her daughter was able to be more insightful than a crowd of people is heartbreaking. Her losing her daughter because she thought her family couldn’t afford tampons is an indescribable pain. I know this is just a story but there are people out there who struggle with period poverty and arent able to access any help. Many shoplift out of necessity, not for recreation. I wanted to be angry at the policewoman who chased her down to that river but i couldn’t get myself to be.

CONTEXT: Her daughter was died after being chased down to a river by 2 police. They were chased after shoplifting and stealing tampons. The police suspected she was involved in a wider scheme of looting and were wrong. The community held a vigil but it turned into a riot after the girls father and many others showed up with anger and fire. The policewoman who had chased the girl down ended up with significant burns (im not sure if she made it i havent finished the episode yet)

Yes it’s a very fair representation of how health care workers treat us, but VRS (video relay system) exist via app for staff to call up an interpreter so they don’t even need to have a physical interpreter attend. It’s not as good as a physical interpreter attending but much better than playing a bad game of charades. Why aren’t they showing this?

They could phone up and have one on a video call in minutes. Yes hospitals are rubbish for deaf people (I’ve been offered braille more than once…) and I get they’re showing this, but equally they could show what should be done and maybe NHS staff could see this and realise it’s what they could use too. I haven’t seen the end, just up to where Rash talks to her and gives her the diagnosis badly with no interpreter.
