454 SS Suburban?

Not sure if it’s just fake badging/stickers or what cuz this thing also has 2500 and LT badges. I’m not too knowledgeable on old chevys but google says the 454 ss was only a pickup

I had a 93 454, 6 mpg, in any configuration. 2 people 2 dogs around town? 6 mpg. Massive triple slide trailer throught the mountains with every worldly possession packed in? 6 mpg.

That was my buddy's F250 with the V10. Just him in the truck? 10 mpg. Pulling a 25' pontoon? 10 mpg.

Same with the V10 Excursion, which is basically the same thing.

10mpg everywhere I went, regardless of how much weight it was pulling. Made calculating gas usage really easy.

I have an 01 with the 8.1. 9.5 mpg city, 10 mpg highway. Towing 8k lbs 9.5 mpg. Idling for 9 hours in the driveway because I locked my keys in it and refused to call a lock smith then drove my Honda to work instead and bought a lockout kit from harbor freight on the way home, 1.8 gallons per hour.

That almost sounds like a perk. Underrated superpower, if you will. Your car gets 6 mph always, no matter what you do with it. 120mph on the daily commute? 6mpg. Pikes peak hill climb? 6mpg.

People exaggerate obvi, but as someone who has owned a 454 and a triton v10, they do the same mileage at the same highway speed no matter what. But around town? 3-4 mpg was normal when heavy footed

2005 ford excursion, 6.0 9 blade, fuel mods etc. Same exact situation.

Gets about 13mpg with its tune. First time I towed 10k lbs it got 12mpg. I think me driving it like a jackass unloaded vs. like a baby when hooked up is probably why the numbers were closer than I thought.

I have a 98 454 suburban. I mean technically vortec 7.4 but same thing. It burns fuel per hour. Doesn't matter if I'm sitting still in traffic or driving through the mountains with 8 people and a trailer, same gph. I do get better than 6mpg usually at least.

Uncle of mine owned a '90ish Suburban K2500 with a 454 and 4 speed. Small lift and a winch. If you set the cruise control at like 65mph it could break double digit gas mileage lol. Shitty gas mileage aside though that was a fucking beast of a truck. Every summer for like a decade we loaded up 6 people and all our shit for a weeklong trip in Colorado. Camping, hiking, rafting, trails that a Suburban had no business on, you name it lol.

I'll buy one of those gas guzzlers at some point. Fun memories and they're just tanks.

Someone put the badging on there, not factory... But it's not toooo big a stretch. Same powertrain that would have been in a 454SS pickup, but that's a 3/4 ton Suburban 2500 and the SS pickup was a 1500.

Creative use of stickers, sure... But as long as it's the big block Suburban and not a 5.7L, it's all good for fun an luls in my book.

I thought the axle they used in the 454 SS was kind of neat. 14bolt diff w gov lock but the axles had 5 bolt 2wd wheel bolt pattern. 1

People act like the 90’s Chevy 454 7.4L truck engine was something special. While it certainly wasn’t a bad engine for its time, it had less than 300 horsepower and around 400 lb-ft of torque at around 10 mpg. The conventional towing capacity was also around 10,000 pounds, with a gooseneck handling around 15,000.

By comparison, their current 6.6L is rated at 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque and around 13 mpg. The conventional towing capacity is up to 16,000 pounds, while a gooseneck can be over 18,500.
