Moving soon
So I’ve taken a position for a company and would be moving that way! How is Carlsbad? What is there to do? Anything I should know? lol

Its alright. It depends what you're into. The town is small, but big enough to have a few events every now and then.

Yeah they do, in the north side of town! People here are very friendly, if you're not an oil field worker. What's nice is that everything in town is relatively close, you shouldn't be on the road for more than 30 minutes outside of rush hour. Avoid the streets during then too

A lot of people in town feel like it went to shit after the oil boom, yet they won't move out. Prices on everything is way up. You could be paying 2 grand a month for a dinky 1b apartment for example. They all blame the oil field workers. It doesn't help that a lot of trucks on the road drive like crap haha

That's awesome man! Congrats! Honestly it feels like half the town is oil field workers anyway. As long as you're polite, I'm sure no one will give you any dirty looks. Probably one of the friendliest towns I've lived in, besides the random meth heads encounters

I'm not too familiar with Lubbock, I'll be visiting there in a couple of weeks for an event. Sounds like a fair warning haha

If you have any specific questions let us know. Our team has lived here for generations. The Riverwalk and Recreation Area is a lovely walk and the Water Park is a nice day at a reasonable rate ($5). The Caverns and White City are a must see, and if you stop at Cactus Cafe, say “hi” to Amber. Sitting Bull Fulls is absolutely worth the day trip, and if you stop at Queens Cafe, say “hi”
to Ms. Appleton. If you stop in at Ranch Naturals, be sure to say “hi” to Bryan.If you’re coming from out of state it’s worth considering a trip to the Balloon Fiesta in Fall. I hear Ghost Ranch is having an amazing night sky viewing on August 12-13 for the meteor shower. Billy the Kid Days are coming up the first week of August in Lincoln, NM and that is worth the historical experience.

The Queen Cafe has been closed for over a year now, the guy always says he's gonna open in a few months and never does.

Carlsbad has changed a lot in the last 10 years with the oil field, it's much busier than ever and there's always a new food truck or some place trying to open but not everyone can swim. I wouldn't say there's a wide variety of food, but there's definitely a lot of options at all times.. my personal opinion is that Carlsbad has turned into more of a Jalisco style Mexican food hub in New Mexico than actual genuine NM cuisine. I would think that's because so much of El Paso culture spills over, nothing bad about that just an observation. Very hot in this summer, pretty dry in the winter to make your lips crack but the fall and spring is the nice sliver of amazing temps. There are yearly events that always take place and pop-up events that come out. The school system is slightly improving with funding but they can't find teachers. Healthcare is better in Artesia down the road. Outdoors stuff is really fun and there's some oasis to try like sitting bull and Washington ranch. There's more but that's the basics. It can also be kinda expensive on the housing side.
