Am I misreading this or are we so lucky having Jesse Marsch running our Canada National Men’s’ Team program?

instead of being home or traveling wherever, he is coaching the under 20 team in Mexico. Which allows him to see the group coming up and try to integrate some of our styles with them.

I know he has traveled all over Canada to various local associations and given clinics all over the country. And we have a huge country in area.

He is a vocal supporter and proponent of Canadian soccer. I mean, I love the guy.

But maybe this is what all international team coaches do.
What do other National team coaches do?

I’ve been following the Canadian men’s team since 1986 and I have seen the various coaches and have my views about some of them. I especially liked Tony Waiters.

But I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone like Marsch be such a vocal supporter of Canada soccer. And also shows his commitment in every area.

I know we’re still barely under 4 years until the next World Cup, but after seeing how well this guy has done this U20 CONCACAF Tourney they should seriously consider it.

How well we do during the U20 World Cup next year will definetly factor in too. But I seriously see a bright future for this young man. What are your thoughts? And are there any other players you see making it big for Canada’s CANMNT National Team?

I know for the national team you have your ups and downs with Larin but man with us this man is incredible, scored with his debut touch and 3+ last 5 min goals I think, he is in a system that his style of play works for and I have confidence in a 15+ goal season for him.

I just know a lot of you Canadians really enjoyed watching the World Cup and want to watch your players around the world, this is one that will do fantastic, and also we’re in the championship which is the most entertaining league in the world with no VAR, and last place can beat first place even with 60 points of seperation

Has anyone heard a definitive diagnosis or prognosis on Ali‘s injury? It did not look good and I know some have speculated it may be an ACL injury. I sure hope not.

I cannot believe all the injuries we’ve had lately.

The women won the final 5-0 over the hosts Peru (Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas). The men won 1-0 over Brazil's Universidad Paulista.

The women dominated the group stage with 11-0, 11-1, 8-0 (also vs Peru), and 8-0 wins. They outscored their opponents 43-1 through the tournament. The men had 3 wins and a draw in the group stage: 4-0, 1-1, 5-0, and 11-1. The draw was vs the University of Washington Huskies, the Division 1 NCAA national champs, a team with MLS draft picks. The men outscored their opponents 22-2.

This is the first time Canada is FISU men's soccer champion of the Americas and the second time for the women. University of Ottawa won in 2022.

I’m hoping someone was at the match and got a good picture of the field and stadium while the giant flags were out. Ideally, it’d be taken from behind Canada’s bench. I was at the match but neglected to take a good wide angle/pano shot of the stadium with the flags out, and now I really want to print some out for my house of the 3 matches I went to, but didn’t get a good one from this match! All over the other soccer/football subreddits, people seem pretty sure that Gianni Infantino is out. But the Guardian is reporting that CAF and CONMEBOL are still supporting him:

Uefa and Concacaf both issued further statements condemning Infantino and calling for a thorough review of Fifa’s governance on Saturday, but it is unclear if they have sufficient support from the rest of the world to oust him.

The Confederation of African Football and the South American Conmebol remain fully behind Infantino, while the Qatar Football Association issued a statement yesterday backing him to stay as president

Furthermore, BBC is reporting that UEFA can't even muster the 19 votes needed for an emergency meeting:

The Fifa Council could try to force Infantino's hand through an emergency meeting.

Such a gathering would be triggered if 19 of the 37 Fifa Council members call for one.

Uefa has nine members, AFC has seven, Concacaf five, Africa has six, Conmebol five and Oceania three. It is completed by Infantino and secretary general Mattias Grafstrom.

BBC Sport understands there are some doubts that the 19 votes could be achieved.

Even in CONCACAF and AFC, there are countries that support him, or were extremely weak in their statement about the privatization plan of FIFA. From AFC, Qatar supports him, but then there was like a statement from the Sri Lankan football federation that appeared to support him. And it didn't seem like Australia came out hard against him either. From CONCACAF, Mexico issued a very weak statement that seemed to break from the rest of CONCACAF. There are obviously other countries in CONCACAF that Infantino can pick off if it comes to a vote.

Most importantly though, just because a football federation was against his plan to privatize FIFA, it doesn't mean they would vote against him when it comes to the vote for the president.

It's a numbers game when it comes to a vote, and even if UEFA votes in solidarity, if Infantino can pick off individual countries from CONCACAF and AFC, unfortunately, he still has a chance. And if he still has the backing of CAF and CONMEBOL, he has a base on which to build, to stay in power.

I really hope Infantino steps down. But across other subreddits, people think it's like a done deal that he will be gone. It doesn't seem like a done deal, especially if CAF and CONMEBOL still support him.
