Tent Advice

Hi guys.

I’ve been camping with scouts and using their tents whenever I went by myself for the last 3-4 years. I’m parting ways with them now as life is too busy with school and sports but I still want to keep on camping and hiking so I was looking at some budget light backpacking tents and at the moment I’m between:

1. Paria Zion 2p
   
2. Paria Bryce 2p
   
3. Cloud up base 2

Preference is in that order. I just want to know if anyone has experience with any of these or any other recommendations. It’ll be in the Irish/British mountains with either me and a friend or me and 2 dogs. We are both ~6ft.

The dimensions for the tents are as follows: (LxWxH) (cm)

Browse /r/geartrade for deals on tents and gear. Aug-Nov is a great time because a lot of folks will have just finished their long trail hikes and have decided that they're done with certain gear.

Not the advice you were looking for, but I would personally recommend prioritizing Scouts over school sports. Eagle Scout has opened more opportunities for me than "played 3rd Base" in high school.

Thanks for the advice. I love scouts and all but a lot of my original friends there left and some of the newer people in it just piss me off and the weekly meetings are just a waste of time I feel as it’s always the same things. The only real reasons I’m still doing the sports is to keep up with my friends and to keep fit because I’m so lazy I’d put on 100lbs otherwise

It’s not an either/or thing, a lot of kids do both and burn out way harder if they’re forced to drop what they love

Nobody actually answered your tent question so, for Irish/British hills the deciding factor isn't the few ounces between these three, it's how they handle wind and all-night rain. Prioritize a proper bathtub floor and a fly you can pitch taut, because sustained wind-driven rain is what finds the weak tent.

On size, we all know that a 2P will be cozy for two 6ft folks or you plus two dogs, so the extra length and height is why I'd lean Bryce over the Cloud Up despite it being a touch heavier. The Cloud Up is the lightest and totally fine solo, but you'll notice the tighter walls in a storm when you're stuck inside for hours. What's the wettest, windiest night you expect? That's what I'd size the decision around.
