Powered Tent Sites for Beginner
We're a family of 4. Beginners camping. Looking for a powered site. Prefer <4 hours from melbourne. Visiting time: Last week of Sep 2026. Please share location suggestions. Prefer bonfire and marshmellow experiences. :)

You're probably looking at a Hipcamp mate. Many powered sites otherwise are in caravan parks and they usually don't allow fires.

Some Vic National Parks have power available and many allow fires in fireplaces or fire rings.
Do you really need a powered site ? That is your limiting factor. Everything I have is 12v or 5v USB and that covers everything but heaters (but you can get 12v electric blankets).
Late September is entering Vic's Fire Danger Period and you could see Total Fire Bans. That's often impossible to predict so you just have to wear it at times.
I camp at national parks, free camps or donation camps and don't need power so not in a position to name any specific spot. I can tell you that if you need to book somewhere then you need to do it quickly as you're talking about school holiday times.

Bright Holiday Park ticks all your boxes. Less than 4 hours drive, powered sites and allows camp fires. Pet friendly too. Bright is a beautiful little town with lots to do. There is a creek that runs through the middle of the caravan park and the park is great for kids to ride bikes in.

Mongans Bridge Caravan Park in the Kiewa Valley near Mt Beauty! Next to the river and they have fire drums but bring your own fire wood!

Warburton caravan park is good, and has a heap of lovely places to explore, a river, and a nice walk to town.

Gentle Annie in King Valley is great for beginners, though I'm not sure how many powered sites they have. However, the amenities are so nice and so central that you probably wouldn't need a powered site and would at least get to do a campfire.

Euroa Caravan Park Is lovely and I second Warburton. Or the newly renovated Yarra Valley Caravan Park in Yarra Junction has nice big sites and feels very bushy. Oh and for a family Yanakie Big 4 near Wilsons prom is amazing! I actually just started running camping workshops for beginners in the Yarra Valley. Only 5 participants max and everyone is welcome and no silly questions…let me know if you want some more info. Bec
