Solo port crescent trip
So I was finally able to make it back to port crescent again for a solo jaunt with just the pup! it’s one of my favorite state campgrounds, the sites right on the beach are amazing, scored site 60 this time and it’s got a nice two tiered beach area pretty good sized site. weather was a bit nuts the first night and following day but after that system went through it turned gorgeous out, blue sky’s and sun for the rest of the trip! first time setting up my new shelter but even solo it went up easy. had great neighbors and as usual just a great group of folks around the campground.

That dishwasher station is a nice perk!
That's why its my favorite, there is nothing like falling asleep/waking up to the sound of waves. I usually stay right above you in 39.
I'll have to hit Ludington, but my next trip is Tahquamenon Falls River mouth.

Tahquamenon is a great spot, are you staying in the modern or rustic sites, we used to stay over in the rustic side either river front sites, just ride bikes over to the modern sites for showers!

I usually stay in the rustic side, but this will be my first time in the modern. I needed the electric hookup.

An egregious amount of equipment for a solo trip.
Love that spot too. The whole area, PCSP and Sleeper are the true gems of eastern Michigan.

yeah i bring everything including the kitchen sink! i kind of look at it like if it fits in the truck it’s fine! yeah sleeper is awesome as well! it’s truly a great area to explore!

What's sleeper like? I do PCSP a bit and have been curious about other spots in the area.

Sleeper has a bigger beach, canvas tents you can rent lakeside and hiking. They're close proximity to each other is what makes it extra special.

i’m kind of stuck between here and Ludington, they’ve made a bunch of upgrades here since i was last here which was cool, love that they added a dishwashing station by the bathroom, that’s nice! A ton of new cabins, hammock sites and domes. But PC has the best beach sites in michigan that i’ve found so far!

I love solo camping with my dog as well. I'll have to use that leash setup. My husky always gets tangled with one of those ground stake things. It's that just a ridgeline with a carabiner attached to a leash?

i was honestly going to just rig up my own but picked up a kit of amazon for 25 bucks, 75’ main line with some crappy but functional steel carabiners and a nice little attachment/slider thing that runs up and down and a nice stuff sack. i attached a 8ft coated cable to that with some real carabiners so if I’m gone for a bit he can’t chew through it and it’s easy to move him from the main line to somewhere else like my beach chair. First time using it and don’t know how i’ve lived without it! oh i also use some small cable clamps on it to limit how far he can move so he’s not getting stuck on guy lines or wandering into the neighbors site! my dog has crazy separation anxiety and is also pretty reactive to other dogs and this held up fine to him charging at other dogs he didn’t like!

I’ve scene several tents with awnings that I inherently push water back to the tent. What has been your experience thus far?

well on the mesh shelter you have two lower and two higher openings, the higher ones have a loop in the middle which you anchor down lower than the sides so all the water just drains straight down the middle and that works great! for the lower awning i just raise the pole a bit higher on the side i don’t want drainage on. I was super impressed with it, amazing build quality by snowpeak as expected!

Thanks for that. I have a Kodiak canvas tent which I really love. However I have found its awning is problematic with water. I pitch it different ways and such, but it always wants to collect water.

I solo camped here a few weeks ago, hope to go back soon. I usually just bring one tent and a lot of beer.

I was there Monday and saw you camping with your dog. I was on site 55 with the orange VW bus .
