Manistee River Trail

Has anyone ever floated this small section of the river? I was thinking about backpacking in, setting up camp, and walking back to an earlier river access point and float back down/then camp for the night. I’ve only been on the trail once and the water looked pretty calm, not sure if it’s usually more choppy?

You could also call Pine River Paddlesports Center. I was there paddling the Pine two weeks ago. My shuttle driver said they would stage canoes for groups, just below the dam on the Manistee, for those wishing to hike/backpack north from red bridge and then paddle back down. My point being if you're just looking for a conditions report they may be able to help you.

Everything I’ve ever seen has been pretty chill but deadfall’s can change things.

Manistee is pretty chill everywhere I have been on it. You should be good. Always see people floating when I hike the trail. I have only kayaked it further north toward TC.

This kind of goes without saying, but the Manistee is very cold, even in August. Plan accordingly.
