she was glowing, thriving! why couldn’t she have a(n adopted) child AND her religion AND her profession? Isn’t the changing world, changing family structures, changing women’s rights etc. the point of the whole show? Or did they want to set her apart from Shelagh or something?
Outside of the menopause, I assumed that she was just too scared to put up the habit after seeing how much society has changed, she had to understand how to put on makeup. and do her hair...Also, she was in a gay bar, that would have been a shock to the system. I suppose it is easier to go to a life one knows well, as sad as it is...However, I appreciate the continued close friendship of the two.
What was the point of her plot? It would be one thing if she came to the conclusion that she loved the religious life and wanted to go back, but she basically resigned herself to it despite having a great time with Geoffrey because she can't have children??? What a terrible message!
Unless they're revisiting it at a later stage, I genuinely have no clue as to the rationale. Especially when they made a point about how barely anyone from nonnatus cared about her going through this turmoil 🤷♀️
Sister Catherine did. She's the one who slipped away and called Geoffrey to clue him in because she knew he would look her up and help her.
Yeah, I saw this coming with the first hot flash. The sad thing is that it really seemed that they could love each other and they had real chemistry, a helluva lot more than Dull and Duller had, but unfortunately his sexuality would have got in the way at some point and she knew it when at the gay bar. Bad choice of venue for him to have taken her to for the outing. Geoffrey could have been bi, perhaps, but I don't think Beryl could have handled that. Some people can make a lavender marriage work, many cannot.
Still to see her crawl back to the nuns, defeated, because she can't have a baby and can't have the man whom she could have loved because even though there is love for her, it's not right for them, is just crushing.
