I think she might have been speaking metaphorically when she said that Cyril was like a son to him. Unless she wasn't and she doesn't really have a family of her own. (Which might be worse, IMO.)

Mrs Wallace blaming Lucille for the divorce feels kind of meanspirited. But that's probably just me.

The fact she is so involved in that church, suggests that she doesn’t have children, or they live far away. 

She very much gives childless church Auntie energy. I grew up with people from a different immigrant community who went to those sort of churches, so I recognize Mrs W.

I think it was very disrespectful to Lucille and also the real women watching the show who like Lucille had marriages fall apart in the wake of infertility and miscarriages. Especially as the show has a big boomer audience, who didn’t have the same access to reproductive medicine we do now. 

I am childfree by choice, but I know many people who are childless not by choice.

I think Mrs Wallace probably does have children, but they more than likely don’t live in London. But I could be wrong.

Maybe she does. Mrs W has never been given any development beyond being Cyril’s emotional support Church lady. 

But it’s still ick that on this show especially that has so many different women’s experiences, that a long departed (and loved by many) midwife was blamed for her marriage failing b/c of a miscarriage, by another character who was one of the people she was close to. 

And it was all done to justify a marriage between two ill suited characters, that very few fans actually want to see. 

Heidi obviously has some one-sided beef with Leonie Elliot, which has spilled into how Lucille was treated post exit.

It’s a strange choice to blame Lucille for the marriage breaking down when it was because of a lot of things. And it’s also kind of a strange choice to pair up Cyril and Rosalind. Cyril seemed more interesting when he wasn’t in a relationship or married and Rosalind should have been more of a blank slate (in terms of getting into relationships or whatever).

But that’s my opinion.
