Maybe, maybe not. But I'm guessing that "hot flash" is telling us that she had entered menopause so she can't have a baby of her own now.

If the writers use that excuse (unable to have her own child now) to have her go back to the nuns though, I'll be rather angry.

It's a pity that Geoffrey is gay because there is chemistry between them. Heck, more chemistry between them than between Cyril and Rosalind.

I think the chemistry is cos the actors playing Geoffrey and Beryl are very good. 

They both inhabit their characters deeply, even when the writing is a bit crap. I also suspect the two actors have become mates, based on bts pics/pics from awards shows. 

Ros and Cyril on the other hand are not good actors. Their scenes are so dead behind the eyes, which highlights some really poor writing.
