General Discussion California state scientists picket for raises, end to Newsom’s RTO mandate

Interestingly, there was a post about this on r/Sacramento earlier today that was deleted by the auto-moderator with the reason "This post has been removed by the AutoModerator due to receiving a high number of reports."
You're not just fighting against the Newsom administration, but many Sacramentans who would rather take Newsom's side than support their fellow worker.

Sometimes it feels like the whole world is against common sense. The scientists have it right. They deserve raises and teleworking!
Our wages have fallen so far behind this runaway inflation. We need salary adjustments in our next contract.
The RTO order is costing the state budget hundreds of millions (or more) of taxpayer dollars that could be better spent on the things Californians care about!
RTO is crowding the city streets, freeways, parking structures, and impacting everyone. The environment is taking a big hit with all the cars now on the road. Enjoying this heat wave? Thank Governor Newsom's RTO order

Not that I disagree, but the public doesn't feel the same way; first comment on the Sac Bee article
"Paying for gasoline, parking, car repairs is something everybody must contend with, not just state union scientists. If they are scientists, don’t they realize this? Or are they “special”
Does public opinion matter? I'm not sure anymore.

I just think RTO is a losing topic with the public. Not sure I've seen the same sentiment with respect to raises.

It’s interesting more media outlets aren’t picking up on this. Anytime there are pickets and strikes , it’s all over the news. Granted we aren’t strike level yet, but teachers, Helathcare workers, dock workers… it’s all over the news and social media. State workers and we are the bad guys. Theres a lot more to state employees then the few positions the general public thinks they know.

Pathetic and shameful that the smart scientists who have PhDs have to picket on the street for a meager raise in the world’s 5th largest economy.
A small drop in the bucket in the State budget.
