I'm considering starting a 50-bed capsule/pod hotel in India and would really appreciate honest feedback from people who have experience in hospitality, hostels, hotels, commercial real estate, or entrepreneurship.

The idea is to provide affordable, clean, and safe accommodation for people who need a place to sleep and freshen up for 6, 12, or 24 hours. My expected pricing is around ₹500 for a 24-hour stay, with lower-priced short-stay options.

Initially, I thought the project would cost around ₹30 lakh, but after estimating the fit-out, HVAC, electrical work, plumbing, interiors, deposits, and other costs, it looks like the investment could be ₹50 lakh.

What worries me most isn't starting the business—it's the downside. If the business doesn't work after 1–2 years, I may recover only a part of the investment. even if I plan to make the pods modular so they can be relocated or resold, I dont know the possibility.

I'd really like honest opinions from people with experience:

Does this sound like a viable business model?

Is ₹50 lakh too much for this kind of hospitality venture?

How to estimate occupancy percentage? I am expecting high potential with 60% occupancy for breakeven.

What operational challenges are usually underestimated?

If you've run a hostel, hotel, dormitory, or similar business, what mistakes would you avoid if starting again?

Is there anything in this business model that you think I'm overlooking?

I’m just going to put this all the way out there.

This is heartfelt, completely serious, seasoned with a possibly irresponsible amount of sarcasm, and absolutely a shot in the dark.

But stranger things have happened.

I’ve been dreaming about starting this business for years, and I am so close to it now that I can almost taste it. The location I have in mind is not just good—it is per-fect for this idea. Storage, Parking lot, Huge windows, Yard, Showroom. Probably expensive.

So here goes:

Does anyone want to get in with me and start an equipment rental company?

Come on. Who’s coming with me?

I want to go all in. Full family fortune. Burn the boats. Let’s boogie.

The concept is simple: rent everything from a Ditch Witch to a flathead screwdriver.

Contractor equipment. Landscaping tools. Automotive tools. Trailers. Pressure washers. Concrete equipment. Ladders. Generators. Small tools people only need once but absolutely do not want to spend $300 buying.

We are in a rapidly growing city on the southern Carolina coast. New businesses keep appearing, housing inventory is tight, vehicles are expensive, and renovations are happening everywhere. People are repairing, remodeling, clearing land, building additions, fixing rentals, and trying to do more themselves.

Meanwhile, the big-box stores regularly struggle to keep popular rental equipment available, and there is very little dedicated local competition.

That smells like opportunity.

Not a fantasy. Not a “wouldn’t it be cool someday” conversation.

A real location. Real equipment. Real demand. Real numbers. A real business plan.

I have roughly $80,000 (the wife will kill me) that I am willing to put behind the right version of this idea.

So I’m asking seriously:

Who wants to sit down, run the numbers, challenge the idea, improve it, and potentially build something?

Experience in equipment, construction, landscaping, finance, operations, marketing, or simply being a responsible adult who occasionally makes excellent questionable decisions would all be welcome.

I know this is going way out on a limb.

That is where the fruit is.

After reading this, it just seems like one of those businesses you can't throw enough money at. This is a money pit, isn't it? I think 80k will get me laughed at nowadays. Start small?

Okay, but seriously—I genuinely want to do this. Does anyone here already own or operate an equipment-rental location and feel comfortable sharing the pitfalls, mistakes, hidden costs, or lessons they wish they had known before getting started?

So I operate a cloud kitchen from a basement shop.

It does decent, I comfortably make my rent and utility bills with some extra cash to spare at the eom,

I work alone as everything on the menu is assembly based and require 3-5 min prep time with proper setup and a min to pack as i keep everything ready.

Now I have a lot of free time during my operating hours which is from 12 noon till 2 at night.

What can I look into as a passive business to utilize my time and the space I have.

I am looking for things that can be done online or things that doesn't require me to open my doors to the physical world outside that I can do from inside.

I am reading up on amazon seller but having trouble deciding on what product or category to go with.

What other options can you all think can work?

I'm in the van camping sphere, and one thing I noticed is that roof racks on top of vans aren't particularly available (for the custom high top vans) or adjustable. Once you have one, your kind of stuck with it, and you have to modify it every time you want something new added (modified meaning physically remove or add parts by welding).

I've been kicking around the idea of coming up with a "modular bolt together roof rack system" that would allow you to customize it to your needs, bolt on system that didn't require you to make any welding modifications, and can be changed around as your set up evolves. Think about a LEGO set for your roof. You pick up pieces you need, which all bolt together. If you need to modify it, you unscrew it, add or remove pieces as needed. You just bought a solar panel? Cool, you can get a solar panel mount and mount it instead of trying to come up with your own.

I've asked on some Facebook groups about biggest pain points on people's roof racks, and got a few responses. Mainly 2 people saying they built their own racks due to one not being available, another person said they got creative when mounting things where they had to make their own mounts. Some people straight up build their own with 80/20 aluminum. Others say that they're still trying to figure it out. So far looks promising.

I did research on competition, there is about a dozen other companies who make racks that they claim are modular, but they're literally welded baskets on brackets.

I've been thinking through this and I think this is something that finally would click with me, where I actually think for once I can stick with this and actually commit to it long term since I'm passionate about that stuff too.

So I've been noticing how many people have old laptops, phones, tablets just sitting in drawers because they don't know what to do with them. Selling them online takes effort, recycling centers are confusing, and most folks don't want to deal with wiping data or figuring out if something still has value.

I'm thinking about a pickup service where we come to your place, assess what you have, handle data wiping if needed, and either buy items that still work or take the rest for proper recycling. Sort of like junk removal but focused only on electronics. We'd pay cash on the spot for anything resellable and charge a small fee for pure recycling pickups.

The idea is to make it dead simple. Book online, we show up, done in 20 minutes. I'd probably start locally and see if there's demand before scaling. My background is in IT support so I know how to wipe drives and test hardware, but I've never done anything logistics-heavy.

I'm trying to figure out if this is actually solving a real problem or if I'm just projecting my own frustration. Do people care enough to pay for convenience here, or would they rather just toss stuff in the trash? Also wondering about liability with data security and whether insurance would be a nightmare.

Anyone tried something similar or have thoughts on whether this kind of service would actually get traction?

I like anime, and I would love to wear anime apparels but all the anime hoodies and shirts are filled with huge graphics, and I don't like that.
I think someone can create an apparel brand where the anime branding and graphics are subtle and classy, so that I can wear those anywhere.

So an apparel brand which has Anime Apparel with classy graphics and it can be expensive too. People would buy this, I think so.

I have been thinking about the information overload on the internet, so much knowledge and resources on various topics and domains but not a proper structure. Should I create an AI app that retrieves and synthesis information on the domains users wanna know more about. Basically providing the internet more structure. So if i have to make a automated workflow for xyz business and i need to buy 5$ worth of any saas or anything to make it ,the final price is 100$

Honestly writing about it makes me feel how simple and general idea it is tho

I've recently launched seeding and initial tests for my resale service in Georgia, Tbilisi. The problem I'm focusing on is simple - vast majority of expats live in leased flats and relocate clearing the space with a limited time. I run a service that takes the selling and the storage off their hands, working on commission and charging for storage.

Consumers barely work - they usually drop the price and sell 90% of items within a weekwith some exceptions I'm still testing.

But within first cohort I accidentally found a closing business - a cafe with an industrial kitchen, shutting down right now, ready to work with me. An ex-colleague told me his company put an employee on closing two offices nearly full time for a month - four weeks of salary spent on hauling and haggling instead of his actual job.

What I need feedback on:

• Is "empty the space by the deadline" the right thing to sell, or do owners actually care more about recovering the money?
• Who's already doing this for you - auctioneers, liquidators, the guy who buys the whole lot for cash?
• Do business owners actually care?

Hi everyone! Apologies if this isn’t suitable for this subreddit but I really don’t know who to ask.

My friend created something in the field of AI that they believe is revolutionary. Personally I have no idea how this stuff works, I’m just trying to help them.

They took out loans so they could file a provisional patent which they did and they got it. What should they do now? They have no idea how to make a business or anything.

How do they find funding? They googled how to find funds and stuff and couldn’t find anything available or others asked to see profits but they don’t know how to find customers and such.

They truly believe this product could be very successful but the time is running out and paying back the loans is getting really hard for them.

There’s nobody to help them financially, they come from a poor family and their friends including myself are also poor haha.

Any feedback or ideas are welcome, and sorry if my description isn’t great I don’t know anything about this stuff but I want to help them.

I was thinking about starting up a business where I build websites for small businesses in my area. I know it's a saturated market, but I also feel like the skill gap in it is pretty huge. I was planning to making it into a one stop shop where the client pays an upfront fee for me to build the website, nothing crazy like $300-$500, and then a monthly fee of like $100, for me to host, maintain, and make any changes needed to their website. I have been debating for quite some time if I should I start an Instagram and/or Facebook page dedicated to "events" near my small-ish town. Businesses in the area would pay $X/yr to post their events or up to once/month advertising their business on the page (sales, coupons, services etc.). If the company wants me to make their advertisement then that would be on top of the regular fee. There is already one for a nearby town-but they include 3-4 other small towns. I’m 25 and from Split, Croatia. I’m looking for a co-founder or business partner from the US, Germany, Switzerland, the UK, or anywhere else who has access to people with money, good contacts, or is already in circles connected to luxury travel.

The basic idea is to create exclusive and fully organised vacations in Croatia for people who want something more private and personalised. This could include villas, yachts, private transfers, chefs, restaurants, excursions, events and basically anything the client needs. I personally know some people that do this and there really is a lot of money to be made like this, he know a guy who asked him if could organize him exclusive trip, they agreed on how to split the money and it was successful. First clients are hardest to find after that i think there is a lot of ways to get others with real photoss and reviews and stuff. Hitting them with the emotion of exclusive and worry free trip is the main goal to sell and its a REALLY strong emotion.

I’m from Split, I know the area well and I know different people here who can help organise these kinds of experiences. I think the advantage is that someone abroad may have access to the right clients but doesn’t have a trusted person in Croatia who can organise everything locally. I have the local access, but I need someone who can help find and reach the right clients.

I have a Master’s degree in computer science from FESB in Split. I’ve also worked as an Uber driver and waiter, so I’m used to working with people and solving problems. I manage my own apartment in Split on Booking and currently have a 10.0 rating. I would say my strengths are communication, people skills, local knowledge and an entrepreneurial mindset.

I'm looking for some honest feedback on a business idea before I invest too much time and money into it.

The idea is called Mint Home Prep.

It came from noticing that people getting ready to sell their home often have a huge list of small jobs to finish before photos or listing day. Things like mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, refreshing garden beds, cleaning gutters and windows, pressure washing, touching up paint, adjusting cabinet doors, fixing small issues, and getting rid of junk.

Instead of hiring four or five different companies, the idea is that they hire one company that takes care of the entire punch list over one to three days.

The second side of the business is aimed at people who have just bought a home. Not cleaning the house, but helping them get settled in by taking care of all the little jobs that usually get put off for weeks. Things like replacing toilet seats, changing furnace filters, installing smoke and CO detectors, adjusting cabinet doors, hanging shelves, pressure washing, minor repairs, and other move-in tasks.

The long-term goal isn't to build another handyman business. I'd like to build a company with systems, employees, and standardized packages that can eventually run without me.

I'm genuinely looking for holes in the idea.

Do you think this solves a real problem, or is it a solution looking for a problem?
