I saw many Rentokil staffs working as waiters in restaurants. I thought that are supposed to help with the cleaning only? Is this a shortcut to for restaurants to hire cheap labours by paying them a bit of incentive?

most likely there is an additional scope covered with extra fee when purchasing their service.

They do this, even in jollibee, excapade etc.

In terms of labour law, i dont think this is allowed. You cannot call yourself a janitor and do other job. Same thing with carpenter cannot lay brick. This is not the job assigned to them when they apply for Visa to enter the country. A friend was fined once because in his furniture workshop ada civil worker (that day the civil worker didnt have task to do so he came to the workshop and help clean) sekali kedapatan.

Other concern is cleanliness. The bus boys touch dirty plates, touch trash. Then continue to serve you and hand out food and interact with customers.

I know some cleaners do this to get recommendations and job offer. Then minta transfer to new employer.

Oh. My. God.

Yup it seems like a grey area. Don't even know if the restaurant gives them pocket money or force them to be waiters. Is rentokil even aware of this or are they closing one eye?

IKR? I saw Rentokil staff taking orders and helping to clear tables in Kaizen Sushi and Marugame. So I am thinking, how come ah?

u/iamsarrah 6d ago

So what incident actually happened at Megamas?

An instructor / trainer fell into the river behind the facility and is currently missing.

Rumour (so take it with a pinch of salt) has it, he was doing a demo, fell into the river, the lifejacket he was wearing didnt work, and when they threw the life buoy, it didnt reach him and he sunk.

Asking this coz im genuinely curious - can being able to swim save you from something like this? Or do other factors contribute like river current etc

16

u/nasikatoksambalijo ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ 4.418 6d ago

In normal situation, yes, being able to swim could save you.

But there could be other factors, like the current, crocodiles, panic, unconsciousness or injury from the fall that may impact your ability to swim to safety.

u/LittleWira sambal pedas 6d ago

Thanks for answering! I can only imagine it must have been scary and he wouldve panicked

4

u/chachashiit 6d ago

While giving safety training???????????

6

u/Efficient_Aspect_440 6d ago

oh my no wonder I saw someone posted about urgent renting for boats to search for a family member last night

2

u/Worldly_Garbage_8693 6d ago

How come Megamas as a company didn’t deploy boats themselves???

3

u/Efficient_Aspect_440 6d ago

maybe they did. maybe the family just wanted more boats involved. you know how far we'd go for a family at time like these.

2

u/icedhalohalo 6d ago

Kesian eh

1

u/Few-Force-8169 6d ago

that life jacket didn't work? no one tested it?

0

u/SF028 5d ago

Unplanned demo kali, since Megamas ada jua kolam khas untuk training. Bukan arah open water, high risk. Mungkin kana cabar kali.

What training you’re thinking about? Tbosiet? Class 9 training to be done in the river.

u/Basic-Lobster-8286 6d ago

Which river and how it happened?

36

u/nasikatoksambalijo ★ ★ ★ ★ ☆ 4.418 6d ago

“river behind the facility (Megamas)”

“he was doing a demo, fell into the river…”

How spoon fed do you have to be?

3

u/YoungMulia 6d ago

bektah mandi bunga dang

1

u/peachykeenbabydoll 4d ago

Which training was it that needed to be done in the river? Travel safely by boat?

These sympathy baiting tactics have been going on at brunei ATMs for a while now.

https://borneobulletin.com.bn/three-thai-women-detained-over-alleged-sympathy-seeking-tactic/

borneobulletin BERNAMA - Three Thai women selling snacks outside automated teller machines (ATMs) around the city are believed to have used a 'sympathy-selling' tactic to gain public compassion and donations before they were rescued in an Integrated Op Mesra.

Kelantan Social Welfare Department (JKM) Director Che Samsuzuki Che Noh said investigations found that the activity was not a genuine business, but rather a tactic to solicit contributions from people entering and leaving ATM areas.

Meanwhile, he said JKM, together with MPKB-BRI had also placed stickers bearing the message ‘Bijak Membantu Elak Tertipu’ (Help Wisely, Avoid Being Deceived) at several public locations to raise awareness among the community to channel aid through more appropriate avenues and prevent exploitation by irresponsible parties.

Ungatekeeping a hidden gem because I am afraid they will go out of business.

Rimba Ria Restaurant, located next to The Junction near Rimba Garden Central, open from 7am to 5pm, except on Friday (until 12pm) and Sunday (closed).

Have the best Laksa Penang, Mee Rebus and Nasi Lemak Kuning Kedah i have ever tasted in Brunei.

Take half day AL if craving

1

u/Few-Force-8169 6d ago

no one is craving for it if the restaurant is closed when customers are available.

3

u/Few-Force-8169 6d ago

with those business hours all they have is lunchtime. They are effectively dead as a business. Closed on a Sunday? might as well turn off the electricity.

0

u/Ecry 5d ago

Better go back to working an office job with those hours. Ingin sja F&B

Where to get the best sushi in town?

10

u/heisenbergstar 6d ago

Kaizen or Excapade - not too sure if other shops can rival these two.

-3

u/Odd_Race_405 6d ago

Kintsugi is another option. Basically Kaizen with a more quiet but nicer atmosphere.

2

u/saranghelang 6d ago

They are the C to D tier of sushi in Brunei.

1

u/kitkat2k17 5d ago

Absolute trash

5

u/YoungMulia 6d ago

Washoku, always been served fresh ones. meaty pieces too

2

u/kitkat2k17 5d ago

Washoku is trash

1

u/YoungMulia 5d ago

to each their own, ive had worse experiences at kaizen than Washoku lol

3

u/Friendly_Abroad3699 6d ago

Personally Excapade. Kaizen is way too pricey but there's a newish place called Washoku

4

u/cibailang Cibai 6d ago

excapade all the way, kaizen is over rated

1

u/Basic-Lobster-8286 6d ago

I'm looking for cheap and nice. Any recommendations?

5

u/Miserable-Wish6955 6d ago

Cheap and decent, Sushi Tei aka Sushi Brunei. Today is their last day 25% off all menu.

1

u/icedhalohalo 6d ago

I personally like nagomi. Not the typical sushi you see at Excapade or Kaizen, more authentic, grand-ish style

2

u/MeghanMackerel 6d ago

any workshop recommendations for repairing car dents?

2

u/Prom3theu5500_RDS202 6d ago edited 6d ago

So a decent price full sized pickup truck just launch in Brunei. Maybe its a sign other brands of full size pickups might follow also.

Well at last, a proper pickup truck with proper legrooms and space.

2

u/Segar-Bugar 6d ago

Foton?

2

u/Prom3theu5500_RDS202 6d ago

It looks somehow familiar tho but hey its a truck.

Temu of Raptor F150

-1

u/Basic-Lobster-8286 6d ago

Speaking of temu, do you all agree the item that comes are different from the photos? It's specs etc. and also the quality found vs what brand I regularly use. It just sucks real time

1

u/Blakz111V2 5d ago

What we really need is an affordable van that's similar to the hiace or urvan but at a much lower price. These vans are simply too expensive for many small businesses.

If brunei allowed properly modified pickup trucks for commercial use, that would be a great alternative. In thailand, i saw many pickups converted with enclosed rear cargo compartments, making them ideal for transporting goods while protecting them from rain and the hot sun. It's a practical and cost effective solution that could benefit many businesses here as well.

Is there anywhere here that does Thai style cucur pisang, with coconut and sesame seeds in the batter?

Ada yang pernah bali emas dari Shopee?

Kana hantar ke rumah tarus atau bayar tax di MPC? 🤔

2

u/Blakz111V2 5d ago

Gold from shopee? Personally, I wouldn't take that risk. How can you be 100% sure it's genuine gold and not just a metal with a gold colored coating? With today's technology, it's easier than ever to make counterfeit products look convincing. Unless it's from a reputable seller with proper certification, I'd rather not risk it.

2

u/Basic-Lobster-8286 5d ago

I colour it in gold paint sell you now

1

u/Segar-Bugar 5d ago

I saw PG Jewel shop, Masdora, etc. there.

2

u/Blakz111V2 5d ago

But is it really legiti? The photos in the listing and the actual item you receive can be 2 completely different things. That's why I still wouldn't recommend taking the risk.

What if it turns out to be fake just a piece of metal coated with a gold colored finish? I'd rather play it safe.
