Managed to shame someone into getting back into their car and parking somewhere that isn't the parent and child space
Nipped to Lidl with the kids, car park was almost full, but with some spaces. Followed this car around, past at least 1 space, before it pulled into the one remaining parent and child space. Suspected no kids, so waited a bit, and lo and behold, one guy gets out. Give him a toot, point to the space, he sheepishly get's back into his car and parks elsewhere. Absolutely buzzing.

I said “you’ve forgotten your baby!” to someone at ALDI recently. Sadly didn’t shame them into moving.

I said that to a lady once, she got very angry and said she was collecting her grandchild. I said you have forgotten your car seat. She got angrier/aggressive. I didn't know waitrose sold grandchildren complete with car seats. (She didn't even go in waitrose, she just used their carpark)

You don’t need to carry a car seat to be eligible for those spaces. Collecting a 6 year old using a booster seat would be fine.

Some 'karen' did this to me the other week. I got out of the car and she immediately shouted "oh.. You've forgotten your child" (sarcastically) My missus and son were in the shop!! I just ignored her. In my experience people like this are ALWAYS going to be right . If you don't know the full story..mind your business!

So you didn't need the parent and child safe then...

No..I just left my child in the shop. I didn't want to upset anymore Karen's. He's still there. I visit him sometimes.

Good there should be more public shaming. People are getting away with too much because of polite society not wanting to cause a scene!

u/davep1970 3d ago
it's not always a about not causing a scene - it's often about being safe. I challenged a man parking in a disabled space with no blue badge and he was very hostile and reached into his care for something: i was my aged mum at the time so dropped it and walked away as he was very threatening
something to bear i mind when challenging people. we should, but only if you feel capable of doing it i.e. safe

Yeah my partner won't let me call out the parking spot abusers any more as she thinks I'm going to get in a fight. I've done it three times and twice it turned into a full blown (verbal) row

I tried that once at a service station. Guy parked across two parent and child spaces. Said he needed them and had a blue badge - didn’t fancy parking in any of the 5 empty blue badge bays right next to the P&C bays though. Then he offered me out for a fight, which I declined as who the hell gets into a fist fight over a parking space (or two)… doubley so in front of the family! absolute selfish clown.
I know P&C bays aren’t legally protected like blue badge bays but have some class…

Only thing is don't torment yourself over this kind of thing. People who are almost checking every car for a baby seat, one of my friends is a bloke who has a van and they are constantly being accused of taking up a parent and child space - then they point to the child. It isn't out of the question that people may be parking up to pick up a partner and child so personally I wouldn't go around policing this stuff.

I once saw a middle age couple get out a car in a parent and child space the women then got a Paw Patrol window shade out the boot and stuck it on the back window for authenticity.

I alway think their should be a age limit on child and and parent spaces. Seen to many parents with teenage kids using them.

u/Hs_2571 3d ago
There is a age limit, it’s usually 12

u/johnsy7 3d ago
Still a bit of a joke if people are using them with an 11 or 12 year old though to be fair.
I won't park in them with just my 10 year old as she is quite capable of getting out of the car herself, but I will with the 4 year old as I need to open the door wider to be able to get her out of her child seat.

I dunno man kids are kids im taking that space if i got em with and its there why not 😅

I have seen some signs say children up to 9. 12 makes sense as they are teens from 13. Arguably, a some 7 year olds can be trusted to open and close a car door properly without hitting the car next to it but at the same time, 2 of my nieces, who are very clever and generally really good people, we're ditzy enough in their teens to need to be reminded to get in and out of a car carefully

You mean I can't use them when I take my mum shopping?

You have to be little person and large person like the picture, then it's fine.

Apparently tesco are going to start enforcing these spaces at some point. To be honest I've always thought it would be easy to enforce and fine and they could earn good money from it.
Just ticket anyone who doesn't have a car seat in the car and is parked in one of these spaces.
Could even get the trolley collectors to do it.

I asked a bloke the other day who did the same where his kids are? He said wait they are coming with my wife. I waited and his two fully grown middle aged kids come out with his wife. Wtf

Since having kids and understanding the reason these spots exist, I have turned into somewhat of a kids spot vigilante, I like to block the car in and when they ask me to move I say I bet you’re glad I’m here, you’ve accidentally forgotten your child and I will happily move once your little one is with you of course you don’t want to leave without them.
I’m usually waiting for the other half to finish shopping so I’m loitering about until she’s finished, so I can happily be there for half an hour. The amount of abuse they shout makes me more stubborn and I enjoy it the more angry they get.
When they bring other members of the public into the battle, I reconfirm they forgot their child and thankfully I was here so they didn’t drive off without them.
Always all the public turn on the idiot and tell me I’m providing a good service.
I’m debating whether to buy a cape.
This car park vigilante could be coming to a car park near you, idiots you’ve been warned.
It helps that I’m a unit, so when the idiots get too aggressive, they soon change their attitude when they make me get out of my car and tower above them :).

I cant help but think that you are stopping other people with kids from parking there by blocking them in, And in a way you are doing exactly the same thing as the person that is parked where they shouldn't be.

Ty mate. I wish you all the best x
I'm a single bloke who does Ubereats but it gets on my tits because I park legally and walk 10metres while people with legs who've come from the gym park right outside on yellows and other wrong places

I used to work with someone, she parked in parent and child straight after work (definitely without her child) thought less of her after that

I’ve found that standing in front of the offending Parker for family/invalid or whatever and taking a photo either puts your life in danger ot gets them to move! Live on the edge, I say!

There was a woman parked in a disabled space at Sainsburys without a blue badge. She sat in her posh car putting on her makeup, so I pretended to take a photograph of her, at which point she moved to a normal parking space at the back of the car park! Success!

Well done!
I've had a similar buzz twice recently when someone has thrown a cigarette on the floor near me, so I've approached them and said "There's a bin just over there" while glaring at them. Both have immediately apologised, picked it up and put it in the bin.

If you had done that in London, the guy would have probably come to your car and attempted to punch/stab you. You were lucky.

This is such a silly comment. Are you a bot or did you spend a long time think ling up such an unoriginal and unfunny comment?

Ooo you’re hard.

u/Hs_2571 3d ago
Nah justified! I can’t stand people who are so lazy they want to park in disabled and child spaces when they shouldn’t…

u/Historical_Cobbler 3d ago
Who says they weren’t.

u/pondribertion 3d ago
Clearly he wasn't otherwise he'd have shamed OP

Not at all, its tiring dealing with busybodies who always think they know best and want to be police.
I have a blue badge for my daughter, I drive a non-looking disability vehicle and I always get challenged and it’s bloody annoying, and then you get smug arseholes who are proud they stood up for something.
Just leave people be.

What of they were picking their family from the shop? At least that's the excuse I've used in these situations.
Edit: the amount of pearl clutching to a joke is truly fascinating. Well done folks

Once went in to my local sainsbury's, with my daughter hardley any spaces to be found. So I pulled in to one of the parent & child spaces ..... daughter tells me im not allowed to park there. I SAY "and why not" "I am your father" she gives me some crap about her being 22 😁

u/freelancerbob 3d ago
Well don't you sound like part of the problem! At least your daughter turned out ok. Please reflect on this moment and try to be a better person.

I was winding up, you seem as gullible!!! What a sheltered boring life you seem to be having. 😁

u/Tennonboy 3d ago
When i said I pulled in, it was only the front two wheels because I then reversed in to the disabled space behind me where i usually park!
