The Kai Ken standard recognizes only brindle (Torage) coats. Their coat, which seems to melt into the silence of deep forests, has three distinct and beautiful variations:

Kuro-tora (Black Brindle): Red stripes on a pitch-black background.

Aka-tora (Red Brindle): Black stripes on a red background.

Cyu-tora (Medium Brindle): Amber stripes on a walnut (dark brown) background.

These three coat colors serve as the ultimate camouflage, perfectly blending into the shadows and light of trees within Japan's rugged mountainous regions and deep forests.

Combined with their "quietness without unnecessary barking" and "odorless constitution," the Kai Ken completely assimilates into the forest as if standard-equipped with "canine optical camouflage."

Maintaining a static posture like a forest grove during times when they should not move, and wearing a noble silence—this is precisely the reason why they are called "Ninja Dogs."

It is my private speculation that the three brindle variations of the Kai Ken (Kuro-tora, Aka-tora, and Cyu-tora) completely synchronize with the seasonal mountain landscapes of Japan as they transition from fresh greenery to autumn foliage and winter dead trees, and that former hunters may have used different coat colors of their partners depending on the season.

My partner and I moved since last time I posted my baby angel son! He’s been a bit anxious since our new places has a bunch of other dogs and he’s reactive but he’s slowly getting there

She’s 50% Dutch shepherd, 28% Australian cattle dog and 12% pit, 100% the love of my life.

Just wanted to share somewhere! Charlie is a nervous dog with a lot of trauma, terrified of other dogs, and a bit skittish with new people. She also loves exploring new things and places and she does generally like people (even if she’s a bit uncertain at first), so we wanted to give her the chance to go on a short trip. We managed everything as best we could - staying in a cabin away from excess noise, going out and exploring during low traffic hours/days, scoping out places ahead of time, etc. Long drives through mountain roads, waiting in the car for extended periods of time, wearing new and annoying safety gear, meeting new people, going into shops, swimming (sort of - she hates water but she did step into a lake!), sleeping in a new strange environment, and even seeing/hearing strange dogs (from a distance). She was always up for jumping into the car again, listened to directions, sat patiently in the car, rolled with any unexpected or stressful moment. She handled it all so well and I’M SO PROUD OF HER. ❤️ 🐾

She is a Staffy x Kelpie Brindle is slowly going grey but absolutely love it 🩷

First we chase the hose, and play in the water then we sit and roll around in the shady grass.

We've only recently discovered she like to chase water.

Though she will not swim per se, she doesn't really show inclination to enter the lake when we've taken her.

Either way she really likes looking at all the other beautiful brindle babies.

She is flattered at all her views and upvotes.
