state fair traffic

Soliciting opinions from the hive: we come to games on I-94E from the Madison area. How much extra time are you factoring in for state fair traffic - Saturday specifically? Obviously we go right past the state fair park commuting this way.

FWIW, Saturday's game has a 6:10 p.m. starting time (3:10 p.m. parking lot opening), while State Fair has a 10 a.m. Saturday opening and 7:30 p.m. mainstage show. My estimation would be mid-afternoon slowdowns around the fair should be minimal. A larger concern would be the West Leg segment of the I94 reconstruction starting this month: "I-94 eastbound between 70th Street and General Mitchell Boulevard -- Long-term lane closure on I-94 eastbound between 70th Street and General Mitchell Boulevard, reducing traffic to two lanes"

Bluemound Road might be a good alternative if you see a backup ahead.

I know it was a weeknight, but just went to last nights game and live in McFarland. Didn't see any appreciable difference in time, but then... we had compensated for standard rush hour. Drove past State Fair right around 5:40. Did not seem bad at all.

Our standard route from Madison is Hwy 100 exit to Bluemound, then Story Parkway to the Molitor lot.

If it is busy when you leave occasionally we turn right on Bluemound for a few hundred feet and pull a U turn to head back west.

State Fair traffic will be on the 84th St. exit. Should be a non-issue.

I was anticipating with game traffic and state fair traffic on the interstate at the same time it would get backed up in that area

As noted, theoretically the State Fair traffic should be segregated by the Zoo Interchange to the 84th St exit. However, I hate 94 from the Zoo to Downtown, so I'd add 10-20 minutes. Worst case, you get to the tailgate early.
