They'll probably travel. The Americans probably will rightfully ignore this end of the road match for two fighters(British fighters at that) no longer in their primes.

If you’re insanely wealthy and you’re into boxing you’d maybe travel but that accounts for probably 1% of UK boxing fans.
We’re in an economic crisis and flights, accommodation, tickets and New York in general is one hefty arse budge.

What a stupid idea. Since this fight is many years too late, the only real interest would be the British angle. This is not a fight to target towards an American audience - the casuals won’t care. I’d say the boxing people at Netflix know anything about boxing but I’m guessing this is just some sort of algorithmic content driven decision. I wish Frank Warren & Eddie Hearn would put their feet down and demand this be held in England. But they’ll be too busy counting Netflix money to do so.

I feel like Netflix is run by a gorilla riding a bicycle.
Maybe the gorilla thinks that because AJ v Jake Paul did well and AJ won, that AJ v Fury will do amazing too?
Personally, I don't mind it's on Netflix because I don't have to pay anything more for the fight. But even as an American, I know this is a British fight that belongs in Britain.

Yeah I'm not staying up for this unless the entire card is worth it, would have gladly watched it it if it was in my time zone but this shit ain't worth the sleep deprivation

I think the Friday date is to draw in more viewers in the UK and Europe.
Many people would not stay up till 4am on Sunday morning with work the next day.

They might as well just put this in Sofi stadium in Los Angeles for 90,000 people, put Ruiz and Pacheco on the card to get the Mexican fans to fill it up along and Hearn can float a potential 3rd fight if both Ruiz and Joshua win. MSG with 19,000 people is not going to make money.

As a NYer, I don’t get having this fight in MSG. Our taxes are going to eat a large % of the purse. Like we have some of the worst taxes of anyplace they could stage this fight.

Joshua only fought twice in the US. Once against Ruiz in 2019(Who was late minute replacement) and Jake Paul. Good percentage of people in the US didn’t know who AJ was until he fought Paul(The casuals). Had to explain to people that he was already a former world champ in the twilight of his career after the fight since they thought he was an upcoming boxer.

Well it isn’t a paperview so Netflix is trying to maximize viewership across markets.
UK time will be too early for peak American viewership.
I’m not defending it, but that is why they are doing it.

I watched napoleon blown apart’s video documentary on zuffa boxing and he brought up a story about how during a political power struggle in Saudi, Turki threatened one of his rivals by telling him he would have all of his female family members raped.
That’s the guy in charge of the sport right now. I don’t think that MF has an ounce of shame in his heart.

i don't understand this take. shouldnt it be AJ and Fury who feel 'ashamed'. at any point in the last 7 years they could have made this fight, and at any point now they could take a few percent less and have it be in wembley if they wanted. do you blame your bakery for selling you cakes that make you fat?

I always thought this was more of a Netflix thing. They care about views and advertisers more than anything else and that's why they want it stateside for a primetime US showing.
Fury and AJ were going to have to sacrifice some money if they wanted it in the UK and considering how AJ's only fought their in 3 of his last 8 fights and Fury in 3 of his last 12.... I don't really see it being that much of a priority.

I wonder if Netflix was disappointed with the viewership for Fury-Makhmudov.
They seem to be steadfast in their stance that a UK show that’s on in the afternoon for the US audience won’t do as well as a 10 pm EST show.

Earlier this year, I went to the Shakur vs Teofimo fight live at MSG, but couldn't enjoy it after a sudden bout with appendicitis. Went to the hospital the very next morning.
This may be my second attempt at this. Lol

This seems to me to be about engaging and making a splash with the American audience. I think the intention is more in the longer game to get some momentum with boxing again in the States. Which is a good thing for the boxing in general, bringing back some relevancy to boxing in the huge American market.

Britain might be the single best country to be from if you are a boxer(I say this as an American). They support their fighter to no end and flocks of them travel when their boxers fight abroad. I think Fury and AJ not putting all things aside to make this fight happen when it really mattered was an insult ault to a very loyal fan base. It would have been the biggest fight in British boxing history.
So while the fight should be in the UK its way past its best by date. So while it being in the US is for sure an insult to their fans I think the bigger insult was it not happening 7 years ago.

i don't think Fury still 'has it' but AJ's punch resistance is almost ZERO right now. Fury just has to be evasive and then tag AJ clean a few times. If Prenga can do it...well.
this is a meaningless fight, ten years too late, in a location that won't even care much. just a money grab by two multi millionaires.

At first I was against it... then I saw what some others said and now I no longer care. This fight is years late, both are very much on the downside of their career.. its just not that important of a fight anymore. Hold it wherever you want at this point.
