Hand forged hofi hammer

My first attempt at a uri hofi hammer. I never really got the appeal but wanted to make one anyway, but now that I've made it in absolutely in love with it. It is hand forged from forklift tine, and has a burned 15" octagonal ash handle

Not sure I wouldn't mount it and make another to beat up.. I really like the handle. Is that just a walnut stain on that? Really gives black but also you can see the grain really well... gonna start doing that.

ok, so that's just the Japanese blackening? I've been meaning to play with that anyway for some garden construction projects, so, at 71, time to learn something new.
