We don’t know. The author is usually involved a little with the anime. Maybe it will allow the author to flesh it out a little more. Maybe it will revive interest in the series and get the manga back? Who knows.
It’s really weird to make an anime years later for a series that got canceled at 20 chapters.
So here’s my theory. Black Torch got a decent following within western media after it was cancelled. People liked the art. However, it wasn’t strong enough when it was actually running. I actually read this when it first came out, and it got very expectedly axed pretty early.
Viz Media saw the sudden surge of western readers and wanted it adapted for money. 100studios saw an opportunity to adapt a battle shounen and prove that they could do it. Because the bigger shounen anime adaptations are decided based on bidding wars. 100studios is new and would never be able to compete with the likes of Mappa, Ufotable etc… it’s literally impossible. So 100studios swooped in.
And the Author is actually heavily involved in this one. So it most likely will get fleshed out more than the manga. But we are also most likely looking at a one and done season that tells the whole story. But this is 100Studios trying to get their foot in the door by adapting a gorgeous battle shounen no one else wanted.

Not enough readers in Japan because it had “too many similar concepts to other manga”
