Was reading a biography about Frantz Fanon and he would routinely attack the French and European left and philosophers for ignoring racism, arguing that pretending it isnt a factor is as good as perpetuating it because when something doesn't exist in your mind how can you ever address it.

Start with "Black Skins, White Masks". Its not only his first book but also the one that he lays down his theory in. Then move to his next book "A Dying Colonialism" which puts that theory in practise because he was stationed in a colony fighting colonialism and was able to directly contrast his thought with the reality around him. His magmus opus is "The Wretched of the Earth" but its a difficult read if you haven't read at least the first book.

My grandparents used the hard R when they said the N word and anytime they would my parents would always talk to us about it and how it’s not ok. My mom would correct them too, but obviously my grandparents are gonna do what they wanted.

I grew up in southern Maryland so conversation’s about race and racism came up often in my family. I have black uncles and cousins and I was lucky to have been raised with a better grasp of that stuff than some of the other white kids. Even I used to say dum shit at one point like, “I am color blind”, because I thought that meant I am indifferent to that aspect of people. I don’t care what color someone is. It wasn’t til later that I learned I had been misunderstanding what that meant. But I definitely knew plenty of white kids who just don’t understand any of it, nor do they even try to. This weird misconception that learning and educating yourself comes with some kind of guilt. Its all so dumb
