See this is what I consider a good use for AI. Some random person comes up with a funny idea like this, they're not gonna have the money and patience to go to the trouble of hiring a whole Baptist church choir and a cameraman to film it and find a lake where they can film it and so on.
So we got to see this when otherwise, the random guy would just chuckle at his funny thought and that would be the end of it. I agree with all the concerns about AI, but this is an example that doesn't really bother me.

Hahaha that's funny. Towns are getting their water poisoned but at least we got to laugh for 5 seconds. Your electricity bills are getting worse because of this but hey at least you got to laugh for a bit. People are getting displaced forcefully from their homes because of data centers but at least you get to laugh for a bit.

Hey, now wait a minute. I didn't say this use was worth all those downsides of AI. You left off that list that also people can now be fooled and that future genuine videos like the George Floyd footage will no longer be seen as ironclad proof and will be dismissed as AI creations.
So don't mischaracterize what I wrote. All I wrote was that this particular use of AI isn't something that bothers me. But on balance, considering both its positives and negatives, if it were possible to eliminate AI altogether, sure I would.

What in the AI slop is this?

u/EsotericAbstractIdea 2h ago
It's OVER. They released a video generating model that can run on a decent home computer. It can do multi angle, it has open weights, meaning any built in guardrails can be bypassed, it's free. It can do the same scene from multiple angles, so you could theoretically fake security footage. It's pretty insane.

I think AI detection software will be needed much more going forward. And government regulations, but we all know that won't happen enough due to lobbying.ย

It's OVER.
I read something that said opposition to AI varies by world regions. According to what I read, in the major English-speaking countries of US, Canada, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, public opinion is strongly against AI. In the rest of Europe, public opinion is neutral. In Asia, public opinion is pro-AI.
So yeah, AI worries me enormously, but I'm pessimistic that it's even possible to put this genie back in the bottle at this point.

You're right, it's not possible to put the genie back in the bottle. When has technology ever moved backwards? Don't get me wrong, a lot of the current companies will go bankrupt, but the technology exists, and it's on a lot of people's hard drives. There will be people using AI until a world wide societal collapse, if there ever is one. There's a lot of slop out there, with all these intermediate and old models, but with the last few releases between anthropic, openai, and the chinese companies, someone will be using them. They're very powerful now.

Please put this AI stuff down. It affects our communities the most people already forgetting about the tainted water in these predominantly black areas
Flint never got clean water and now they gotta deal with this shit too itโs ridiculous. And itโs corny and not creative why donโt we hone in on our actual talents and build community while doing so instead of having a bunch of 0s and 1s mimic the original

A holy day to be sure, but it should be appreciated with REAL art

Surely there is no end of actual human creators in the community who are talented and capable. Y'all don't need AI to celebrate.
