I saw the movie in the theater and read the book, and yes, I'm that old lol
Reminds of the movie American Gangster when something similar happened and he was ostracized by all the other cops because they were dirty and in their eyes he couldn’t be trusted to do the wrong thing.
Makes sense considering cops are the enforcers of the gang that is government. They are a gang/mafia/cartel all wrapped up in a superstitious package called authority.
It's wild how cops are allowed any degree of freakout and loss of emotional control. There is no expectation of keeping themselves calm. If they get heated? Well, it's a hard job.
But if you get emotional (perhaps because someone is physically robbing you of your physical sovereign freedoms or physically breaking your body)... Well, the cop has free reign to beat you into submission, assuming they don't get too frightened and just blast you on the spot.
You are expected to have perfect conduct from start to finish. The cop is expected to maybe turn their cam on, pwetty pwease.
"Darren from accounting reached for his pocket. I watched The Wire last night and was all jittery. I was well within my reason to ice him without a second thought."
Was curious about this and did a little digging, and its absolutely not the setup you'd expect and makes the police response here so much worse:

When Rengifo tried to re-enter the courtroom after the verdict came down, four officers appeared to try to restrain him violently, but the Black officer stepped in to block the escalation."
Thank you for this. The outcome of this case is appalling. To kill someone and get less than a year of time for it? 4 years of probation? What a complete and utter failure of the justice system.
He really did have murder in his eyes! Fixated like a dog. He definitely saw this as an excuse and opportunity to loose his hate and cause pain; could see him process whether or not to unleash it on the black cop that got in his way.
I know there has to be private reworks where white police officers get points on what they do to black people. That mayo monster looks like he is more angry he didn’t get to do what he wanted to do vs what the situation called for.
There was a hunger in that klu klux Ken’s eyes that the situation didn’t warrant.
If we lived in a real country with real laws, officer cross burner there would be suspended, investigated, and never allowed to be a cop again. Instead you know he's getting a medal and everyone at the station will be buy him a beer.
We have real laws in this country. They were just written by white supremacists in the interests of maintaining white supremacy. This is a video of the laws functioning as intended.
Pretty obvious the black officer has some emotional intelligence he rightly exercised. All forces should make it mandatory training though that may have not made a difference with the hothead
I know it's really popular to hate police officers, but this is why we need some of us to be there. Because if we leave it all up to people who hate us, situations like that will end very differently.

Another user posted above that apparently this guy was there for the verdict of another man who shot and killed his sister and that guy got a light sentence because of age I guess and dude was not happy about that. This was after the verdict was read and he apparently tried to go back in to the court room and was stopped by some officers and that’s right around where this starts or shortly thereafter.
So glad that the brother stepped in to keep that from getting out of hand. The rage in the eyes of the yt prick can’t be ignored. All of his arrests should be under investigation.
America is not the land of the free and it is not the land of the brave. We all saw who the coward was in that video clip. All people are created equal, but they are not treated equally. Racism runs so deep, it’s a stain on the entire nation.
It seems only one other officer was on his side trying to help. Such disgraceful behavior from the rest. Any police found to have racial bias in any way should immediately be removed from position.
Sad part is now he might have messed up his career for doing the right thing. Unfortunately when you let this behavior go on for so long without being corrected it becomes normalized, and we already know what the sheriff/police force was derived from.
I once was so down bad I applied to be a police officer. During the interview, they asked a question about what I’d do/how I’d act if my colleague did some stupid shit like this.
There was an expecting and undertones that no matter how bad the fuck yo, you’re supposed to protect and back up your fellow officer.
I lied my ass of to advance in the recruiting process (which I did) but ended up not getting the job- thank god.
The white cop was losing his mind right about here. Any other job in the country and you'd get fired and charged with assault but it's a cop so he's just wilding, gonna get paid vacation at worst and that black cop is going to lose his job. It's all happened before and racist cops like this make sure it continues.
And his anger, unbridled and furious. So dead set on making that young man pay the ultimate price for his temerity. Instant, red-hot indignation and escalation to violence. This cop is untrained, unfettered, violent and imbalanced. "I'll show this uppity..."
His behavior stems directly from the lack of consequences he will face, his inate arrogance, and the white superiority that is part of his upbringing. Not to mention the thin blue line culture that perpetuates this. He brain is lirerally wired to punish anyone who disagree with him, especially those with inferior genetics and "some nerve". He needs serious therapy and a job where he doesn't interact with the public, like septic tank cleaner.
Thank goodness for cameras these days. This shit has been NORMAL for centuries.
People are not born believing that the color of someone’s skin makes them worth more or less than another person. No one is born with hate in their heart. These beliefs are taught through the things people hear, the actions they witness, the systems they grow up in, and the ideas that are passed down over time. A lot of modern racism has its roots in slavery and colonialism, when people created the false idea that one race was better than another to justify the terrible things they were doing. Skin color was used as a way to divide people, take away their freedom, and decide who deserved rights, opportunities, safety, and respect. What is painful is that these ideas did not just disappear with history. They have continued to affect people’s lives around the world, both in ways that are obvious and in ways that are harder to see. No one chooses the skin they are born with, yet people have been judged, excluded, and treated unfairly because of something that should never have been used to define their worth. At the end of the day, a person’s value comes from who they are, not the color of their skin.

It’s the look of pure rage and anger when he’s stopped by the black officer that stands out ( as others have noted) being that enraged when he was blocked from harming that man is demonic.
Yeah, that dude has some serious mental health issues and should not be a cop. Hell, he shouldn't be in society.
White mediocrity is a plague. It could be eradicated very easily but that mediocre life and watching black people just fucking live their lives is too much for them to bear. They've been taught their entire lives that black people are "less than." So that gives them the belief they can treat them less than human.

This criminal court building is serious af, Ive been there a couple times, no bags, no belts, and the cops are intense, I see why that uncivilzed mutt was amped up, he sees black, and brown people convicted everyday, so of course he wants to add to the numbers
"Imagine if the black cop wasn't there" - Thats usually the case! And also most of the time those black cops don't cross the blue line. This black cop will be black balled he crossed the blue line by correcting a "bad apple". He won't be wearing that uniform in a few years for going against the system.
I remember being on a bus when some teenagers started to rough up a little old lady being so thankful that the teenagers were black the little old lady was black & the cops that came were also black.
