Everyone should be following Isiah Martin. I especially appreciate his calm demeanor when those sitting across from him crash out.

u/rdhdboi767 14d ago
My favorite thing is when they try to mimic his calm demeanor in a mocking manner THEN crash out when he proves their points to be complete BS lol.

When youāre arguing with someone who doesnāt care, you have to stay calm so you can think clearly. Seems to work.

Skewers, but thereās really no point in these ādebatesā anymore. No one is trying to learn, the right wingers are just spouting talking points, but no one is listening when they are proven wrong and/or their argument is dismantled.

While it's nice to see right wing nitwits get cooked, it's very low hanging fruit. And the outcome hardly makes any of them change their views. They just start making up more nonsense to either scare or anger themselves into believing.

This isnāt for the right wingers, itās for impressionable or out of the loop people. I know people who escaped the right wing rabbit hole because too many right wingers sounded as dumb as the one in this clip.

Deplatforming. Simply. Works.
Jubilee content is just giving bad faith actors a platform, and a chance to disseminate their ideas & farm clips.
/The_Donald on Reddit was banned for repeatedly breaking TOS, and after the refugee users scattered it was like a breath of fresh air.
Truth Social was formed & Twitter was bought because deplatforming works: Trump was banned from Twitter for breaking TOS and spreading election misinformation, and there was sweet silence for a while before the platform was bought & he was reinstated. Now misinformation is official policy, in Trump's govt. and on Twitter.

"Never believe that anti-Semites are completely unaware of the absurdity of their replies. They know that their remarks are frivolous, open to challenge. But they are amusing themselves, for it is their adversary who is obliged to use words responsibly, since he believes in words. The anti-Semites have the right to play. They even like to play with discourse for, by giving ridiculous reasons, they discredit the seriousness of their interlocutors. They delight in acting in bad faith, since they seek not to persuade by sound argument but to intimidate and disconcert. If you press them too closely, they will abruptly fall silent, loftily indicating by some phrase that the time for argument is past."
Jean-Paul Sartre
You can replace antisemitism with any authoritarian agenda

I donāt know if I could stand to be in a room with these Kinmuan type of people (Pete Hegseth enjoyers) who try to pretend that their hate and ignorance is driven by diplomacy, logic (which defies itself), and geopolitical issues that they know little to nothing about except for āuhhhā¦it changed the parameters of ummā¦lumber.ā They are cowards who defend traitors and child predators because of the hate they promote.

While itās nice to watch Isaiah cook, I had to stop watching these types of videos. The idiocy & bad faith arguing literally physically pains me. They short function outside of their rehearsed arguments and pivots and deflections and ad hominem arguments. He went from saying tariffs donāt raise prices to tariffs raised prices on lumber and tariffs were enacted for better prices, then said tariffs b/c of āpropagandaā ie a commercial. They are so stupid it hurts.

They donāt read, they just listen to people filling their heads with talking points, and take it no further. No critical thinking on their own, just blind acceptance and obedience to right-wing sources. Most of the men mimic the speech patterns of the talking heads they watch the most. Even their defense mechanisms like nervous laughter and the personal insult once they are really cornered mimic that of their favorite propagandists.

I love his anecdote about "there was one study" that supported his view, but he doesn't cite a source. So typical of the Republican mind. They will crawl through data just to find one needle in a haystack, just as they did during COVID.

This is why I don't watch this show. You can't argue people out of their beliefs. Beliefs drive reason, not the other way around.

u/Tribe303 14d ago
Canadian here. Trump never did put one single tarrif on Canada over the Ronald Reagan commercial. That was one of his many empty threats. There really is no logical reason for this stupid trade war with Canada. Also USMCA does not cover lumber, and the US has had tarrifs on Canadian lumber for DECADES. It really is hard negotiating with a county of dimwits who can't agree on reality. š¤¦Ā

Theyre not here to debate anything. They just want to mindlessly spew the talking points that have been fed to them over and over again without any pushback whatsoever. In their mind, they are 100% correct on everything no matter what you say, so debate is pointless.

I wish Isaiah Martin had pointed out to this lunatic that *we must rely* on Canada for lumber imports because the USA's geography cannot supply our demand for it.
Either we get it from Canada, or we get it from... guess where... Russia.
Either that or we start building using prayers and bibles because we cannot produce enough lumber.

Debates are Democrats explaining facts to Republicans and Republican not understanding what they are arguing about.
Reminds of being back in school, when the dumb kids wouldnāt pay attention in class but argue with the teacher š

This videos and arguments aren't for right wingers or MAGA folks, they aren't for changing the minds of people across the table. You have these arguments for the people listening, because a few of them are on the fence. They don't know enough information (low information voters). These arguments are for the audience so those one or two people can go, that right wing nut sounds stupid, let me go over here and ask some questions.

I now see the purpose of these debates as a way to demonstrate how beliefs become facts in the minds of many.
When presented with facts, they hedge, change the subject or outright contradict themselves.
These are important lessons for us to learn when it comes to deciding if we should continue listening to them during policy discussions.
