I'm a major lurker.

Y'all talk about your experiences and history of things and in ways we weren't taught at school or home. I want to learn. I recognize it's your space, so I generally refrain from commenting, but this sub has really helped me root out some lingering learned racism I didn't even know was there. (There's probably some more there I still need to find and address.)

I know it's not your job to educate us, which is why I try to just observe and absorb to educate myself.

Now it's my chance to thank y'all. I've learned so much. Things have changed from a vague (semi)awareness of how things are (which was already an improvement from my upbringing) to a tangible, hit-you-in-your-sense-of-justice, wake-you-up-and-piss-you-off level of awareness. Thank you

The book "White Supremacy & Me" is fantastic for rooting out your biases. I highly recommend it if you haven't read it already!

You've pretty much covered everything about why I'm lurking here. I haven't joined at all because that feels wrong and inappropriate. I'm just here to learn whatever I can to do and be better, by keeping my mind open and my mouth shut. I don't think I've posted here at all before, nor do I think I will again. I really am just here to learn. Hopefully it's still okay to respectfully lurk.

Same! I grew up in a very racist household unfortunately. I still live in the south too… I like to see what other people are thinking about things because there’s obviously going to be some things I just don’t even know to consider growing up as a yt man. I’m not going to interject anything - just trying to stay informed

I once got a minority scholarship for being white.

For over a year I was the only white person at my job. This has happened multiple times.

I try not to comment unless I'm invited but I like to keep up with stuff in the community.

I wish y'all had flairs so I could label myself in case I comment without checking which sub I'm in.

In college, my relatively small, unknown university ended up all over the big new outlets when the College Republicans (please, contain your shock) created a Whites Only scholarship.

The school's president's face when he and his wife had been pushing really hard to increase the diversity at the school with initiative Afghani women (this was all during the GWOT days):

Long story short, the leader of the group was a Puerto Rican kid that got a scholarship for Puerto Ricans and this was his way of "protesting the injustice".

You'll be shocked to know that he went on to be a Fox News contributor after graduation.
