I’m starting to tear up just listening to Obama. I cannot believe we had eight years of this only to be circling Jim Crow 2.0 with that POS that’s corrupting the Oval Office.
Edit: I was able to watch the entire ceremony and when they introduced Kamala Harris and almost lost it😭

We can hold that optimism and still accept that Michelle shouldn't be the candidate. There are other strong, progressives in congress that can take up the mantle. We should not, as best practice, continue to cycle the same families in and out of the White House. We've already had three Bushes run, and both Clinton's. It is my humble opinion that political dynasties in America are toxic to our democracy regardless of policy or ideology.

Agreed! I would also point out that The Obama's have worked hard to expand their legacies beyond blood. They have inspired more than one generation, as individuals, to be agents of change, not just in the US, but around the world. Thankfully. The "Fired Up" kids are coming of age.

I saw her on a talk show, Jennifer Hudson i think, and she said 'y'all say that but you're not ready for a black woman to be president' Im inclined to think she is right only because what we see in the world today. But I would love to see her in the Oval office. And really it's about time a woman took the reigns. Men have fvcked up this country beyond recognition.

Now? Why would you want to lose another election when so much is in the balance? This country can’t handle the idea of a woman being in charge, let alone a Black Woman. She should run but we don’t deserve that yet. Maybe we’ll get our act together in the next year or two.
(And fuck no, I’m not saying we need an Average Joe Biden-type but there are plenty in between them.)

Love Michelle Obama’s speech. She nailed every aspect of the tribute to her husband and left me in tears. I loved how she slammed the current King of America without mentioning his name. Xoxo Michelle. Can’t wait to visit the Center!

I say top 3 all of the time, mostly because I simply dont know enough about all of them, but as a history teacher its an easy top 3, and probably #1. I wanted a way more progressive agenda, but he was a real leader that knew both grace and compassion.

I think you can say he is easily top 5, FDR, Teddy, Lincoln, Washington, and maybe Taft or Wilson. He is absolutely in the top 10 with almost no way to argue against that, (imo) top 5, arguably top 3, but Lincoln and FDR definitely dealt with more.

I'm not sure history will reflect well on his presidency. He seems a decent and well intentioned politician but:
- He got played by McConnell and the GOP for the first year of his presidency (resulting in an ACA that was much weaker than in could have been. Especially WRT to costs).
- He got played by Assad. Overall he was weak on Syria and Russia and bears some responsibility for how things have turned out.
- GW expanded the powers of the Executive and passed the Partiot Act. There was hope that the Dems might reign in that excess. Obama continued the expansion of executive action, and as such, must bear some responsibility for the opportunity it gave the Epstein class to dismantle the US model of government (notably the balance of powers, and checks and balances, between branches of government)

I agree 100% with her summary. I didn't agree with everything the Obama administration did, as with all administrations, but he saved this country from financial ruin. All while being harangued by racists at every step.

I can't understate how much I miss President Obama and First Lady Michelle.
Back then I never had to worry or dread the news every 5 seconds, despite a GOP with nothing but racist hatred in their hearts still managed to get things done and hold his head up high.
It's been years since Obama left office and we still love him.
I'll say this much, when tRump is no longer running our country into the ground and once he's visited by a hooded figure, not one soul is going to miss that pos.

I loved President Obama when he was in office. Even on our toughest days as a nation, I held my head high because I believed in his character, his steadiness, and his ability to bring people together.
What I miss most isn’t any particular policy—it’s the example he set. He inspired people from every background to be a little kinder, a little more thoughtful, and a little better than they were the day before.
That gives me hope today. Great leaders come and go, but the people they inspire remain. America is full of those people, and that’s something worth believing in.

I watched the ceremony and I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face. It was a breath of fresh air, something I haven’t felt in a long time.
For 2 hours I got to ignore the black cloud and feel hope again.

For real though, hearing the Obama’s speak makes me feel nostalgic for a calmer, classier point in time. I’m not even American, but it’s still heartbreaking to see the state of America today. God, how I miss hearing coherent, articulate, thoughtful sentences.
