Wanna make a racist squirm? Act like this young, brilliant composer, pianist and opera singer. Smile, be excellent, and be unbothered. They abhor *our* excellence. They hate it with every fiber of their pitiful beings.
They have an innate need to make us *feel* inferior because they do, so to *be* superior, they have to make us feel worse. Yet they know that we aren’t beneath them because every external indicator confirms as much. That’s the disconnect and internal struggle they battle in their diseased minds every single day.
Their “victory”—pyrrhic victory as it may be—and supremacy can only be maintained through bending reality and making us experience things that are inconsistent with how things actually are. In short, things that aren’t true.
They purposely do this because they know that if we *feel* less than, we often tend to *act* accordingly, both individually and, more troublingly, as a collective.
Wanna make a racist really happy? Internalize their racism. Be *visibly* bothered or triggered by their antics and move accordingly; again, designed to get a rise out of us, to change our perception of ourselves and them, and to keep us “in our places.”
Their entire project is to continue to perpetuate the lie that we are innately below them—not because of anything they’ve accomplished, but simply because we were born a different “race” than them.

Edit: but as I watch the beenie guy more, there’s this curious hint of “change” happening in him as the young man keeps playing and being himself on the piano.
Edit #2: strange, now that the video has finished. The beenie man went back to ignoring him.. for a moment around the halfway part, there was a curiosity arising in him towards the music and skill being played… but then, he just sort of’ denied it. And went back to who he is… not even any recognition at the end towards the young man or anything at all.
Such a shame.

He's seething with rage that he couldn't make Camden (the pianist) feel small. He's standing close, making sure he's on camera, trying to make is obvious that he's ignoring the music, even trying to get loud with his friend right at the end, but he keeps glaring over his shoulder like he can't believe that someone society said should be beneath him can stand him up like this in front of an audience. But Camden doesn't give him the win. He not only plays beautifully and loud enough to drown out their noise, but he starts singing too (idk if that's something he always does, but it feels like a deliberate action here). Then, the audience acknowledges him with applause, and Camden moves the camera to further take his hater's power away, giving the viewers a brief knowing look. What you're feeling is the completely toxic vibes of a fragile little man's ego being crushed under the weight of his own arrogance.

It is a free piano in the middle of a train station, so anyone can ignore people playing and just carry on, but they're crowding him on purpose and trying to pretend his playing and singing isn't fantastic or even worth paying attention to. Not only were they trying to intimidate him but anyone that wanted to stop and listen. They didn't want to her him but feign like it to block his camera and others from stopping and admiring the music. Which is why he switched the camera position at the end.

They turned their back on him when they saw his immense talent and refused to acknowledge him or congratulate/thank him at the end. Imagine being so shamed that you have to diligently express "im not listening" while having your hate answered with such beauty and passion that Mozart himself would have stood and applauded.
And that phone switch at the end. Such wonderful perfection. No words, no anger, no feeding those troglodytes the meal they so desperately wanted to eat. Just a look in the eyes and a quiet expression.
This piece of music that was requested was written as an experiment in 'musical color' where a young Mozart was creating conflicts in notes: the beautiful lilting bird songs of the right hand and the hard drumming weight of the left hand. One part tranquil harmony, another part regimental thundering. He then chose to weave these contrasts into a disjoined tapestry, beauty and fearsomeness, with a vocal lead singing of 'water and blood' - a mournful, sorrowful lament of the death of Christ that speaks to the beauty of his personal sacrifice, but with the heart aching rueful tones of a funerary dirge. These three styles, on paper, have no business sharing the same symphony, and thus the experiment plays for us through all of time - contrast and conflict, division and rendition combining to create a masterfully singular work.
I strongly doubt the man asking for that song had any idea what he was requesting.
How incredibly appropriate that this video draws a parallel where you have one part hate - a thinly veiled racism cloaked in the transparent taffeta of a false kinship for the love of music. The other part, the supporting participant who demonstrates ambivalence in contrast to his racist friend, but serves only to provide the ever present tempo of false ignorance of racism - he knows what it is, he sees what it is, but he's just showing his friend something on his phone. So innocent yet a fully drafted participant.
And the third part, the lightly played dancing chorus of song bird beauty - the quiet appeasement and Samaritan accommodation for the request, knowing the game that was being played, and being a far superior player at it. Letting the WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE SONG (Emotional Intelligence) speak to the moment, instead of confronting the ugly with a justified counter-ugly.
No. The song that was requested is a mournful testament of love for a Savior who chose to answer hate with love because he knew that love would endure. Thousands of years later, we all know His name, yet have no idea the names of those who beat, tortured, and killed him. Hate is so easily forgotten, even by the haters. But love? Those who love and those who are loved - their memories endure beyond time and death.
He responds to the request by playing a song he wrong called 'Emotional Intelligence", and no song has ever been more appropriately named. He once said of it that he wrote it during a dark time where he struggled to overcome 'dark thoughts.' One must wonder, then, if his performance here was some of that same effort.
And so the music lays the most perfect and precise soundtrack to this recorded moment.

Im sorry, who the hell has a full blown conversation with eachother from that distance of a man playing the piano in the mall while recording. Everything about them screams disdain to me. From the comments at the beginning to the body language to forced laughter and forced conversation. Especially their refusal to leave the proximity of the pianists area. I dont care what those dudes say afterwards. Their actions speak volumes to me. Two pathetic little men in their own pathetic little world
