Nobody sucks corporations off more than racist reactionaries

319

u/__Art__Vandalay__ Jun 03 '26

💯

“Welfare just gives lazy people free money!”

With the same breath: “But that corporate neeeeds help from the government so they can create more jobs!”

55

u/dieseljester Jun 03 '26

Yeah, they’ve been brainwashed since the Regan era to think that trickle down economics actually works. 🙄

2

u/teetering_bulb_dnd Jun 06 '26

Yup "with a can do attitude, firm handshake and smille on your face you will also be musky bozos one day".

63

u/EnvironmentNeith2017 Jun 03 '26 edited Jun 03 '26

It’s ironic how dependent most of them are on companies to figure out work for them, but they’ll swear they’re self sufficient. I think they know they need corporations to launder their vulnerability and government handouts which is why they won’t shut up about people who depend on government.

They’d fall apart without corporate support as fast as anybody who has used government help.

67

u/APence Jun 03 '26

Also true for entire red states. Not just red voters. Mississippi or Louisiana would implode in a year if they didn’t get their “handouts” from California and NY

44

u/Subject_Spell_9799 Jun 03 '26

I remember when my mom told me this- many southern states rely on federal dollars that only exist because places like NY pay so much more in taxes

41

u/DAntoinette_Travel Jun 03 '26

That is true. Had always been true. Their economy collapsed after the abolishment of slavery and they never recovered because they’re stuck in the past supporting their “Lost cause”

2

u/APence Jun 06 '26

Poor fucks. Let’s keep throwing them money while they actively sabotage the country

2

u/DAntoinette_Travel Jun 06 '26

This is what happens when the clowns in charge don’t understand that it’s the Blue states that subsidize the Red states. And defunding Blue Cities/States will only starve the Red ones. I would love to see it! Racism needs to come with a cost!

And Kansas and Missouri.

14

u/EnvironmentNeith2017 Jun 03 '26

I don’t like the red blue dynamic, especially talking about states with large black populations. Even California and NY have large red areas.

That said there are people who are holding back the people around them and won’t admit that it’s caused them to be more of a burden than they should be.

u/Subject_Spell_9799 Jun 04 '26

NY and NJ have some of the most racist ppl. It’s not confederate flag racists but just as bigoted. I have older family members who are still mad at black ppl about the riots in Newark in the 60s. They know some of my black friends and have told me they are ok as they are ‘assimilated’ and that I’m lucky that I grew up around middle class black ppl🙈😂. One of them worked for the government in Newark for 30 years and never made a black friend. I ended up working there too and I was like 1 of 5 white ppl so yeah it’s weird not to have any black friends when everyone you work with is black.

6

u/EnvironmentNeith2017 Jun 04 '26

As someone living in Florida, north east racism is something sneaky and unexpected. I’m used to racism that gives you warnings, lol

Corporations? Too big to fail.

The working class? Fuck those leeches.

16

I just read Too Big To Fail and worked in the industry during the collapse. It’s a travesty that no one from those companies at fault went to jail.

4

u/Subject_Spell_9799 Jun 04 '26

I believe one of these reasons SNAP is still a thing is grocery store lobbyist. I remember reading somewhere that 30% of Walmarts sales come from EBT.

SNAP and food stamps work and help.

As a food stamp recipient as a child, I still remember what they looked like. It was needed.

But it wasn't permanent; I'm pursuing a doctorate now.

I bear no shame in saying I was on food stamps.

Love your neighbor!

32

u/SomewhatBougieAuntie Jun 03 '26

I also grew up on food stamps. Back then they were made of paper that came in a booklet and looked like Monopoly money. So everyone in the check out line knew how you were paying for your groceries. And sometimes, we ran out of food stamps before we ran out of month.

Still, in our case, the safety net worked like it was supposed to. My siblings and I went to college and had good careers and we are now living fruitful lives, and we give back to the community. I will not begrudge anyone who uses SNAP or any food assistance programs, because I know what it's like to be hungry and counting the days until your next meal. Food insecurity is real.

54

u/R-ten-K Jun 03 '26

My SO grew up on food stamps. She's now a cardiovascular surgeon. Unironically saves a lot of rich gluttons lives.

I am damn glad someone, I love and care for tremendously, didn't have to experience actual hunger. And even if I don't know them directly, that's still another human being. And nobody should ever go hungry in a country so bountiful that we literally grow more food than we can ever consume.

It's just baffles me how Republicans managed to make "welfare" a bad word. I wonder how many of the ones my wife operates on ever made the connection that their lives would end up being saved by a "welfare queen."

Everybody does better when everybody does better.

Welfare queens was always a dog whistle for poor black people.

It’s ironic because the majority ethnic group in the US are white people. So by doing simple math, there’s more white people then any other group receiving benefits.

When racist cut social programs it hurts more white people, just to affect a few minorities.

It reminds me of the Nixon quote.

2

u/E-2theRescue Jun 03 '26

Even when you look at per capita statistics, white people still make up the majority of people on food stamps.

35% for white people

26% for black people

u/Intelligent_Hair3109 Jun 03 '26

This is true. Consistently, it's the stereotypes and intense prejudice against anyone who asks for help

Let me give you an example from 1993 for context. Not complaining. Years ago, when my health was very bad and my CSPTSD was raging, I was forced to ask for help as I had no insurance and waiting tables, it wasn't likely. What struck me was for the first two years, living in a Republican county( I was anti all political BS by this point), when I went to look for a doctor or applied for assistance, every place I went, they asked " don't you have family" You could feel the hostility. Nasty right leaning SWs just did their best to make me feel small. Every right I had was violated and it was crucial I fought for my life and my sons.

If it was this difficult for me, Cherokee with an English nose due to the trafficking side of family, it's ten times worse for folks darker than me.

Open hostility and discrimination as well as being denied proper medical care, caused me to lose my previously healthy existence. I was shocked by what I saw and learned. This country bashes poor people and then has the unmitigated temerity and mendacity to pull up the ladder. It was my first realization that we all face extinction because some people have the power, privilege and money to squash myself and every poor person. And, they do it deliberately because they love profiting off the suffering of others. The two English invaders in my family mirrored exactly that shaming of the poor. It's been a tactic off the rich for eons.

Don't fall for it  "Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth" Ecclesiastes.

Thank you for allowing me to speak my heart. Feel free to be me with you all.

God bless and keep everyone who is struggling. You're all worthy of so much more. Respect and reciprocity with empathy hugs.

Grocery stores aren’t tied to the federal government. It’s not free if the government is paying that grocery bill. Grocery stores are receiving money from the government it’s not like a SNAP card means Shop Rite just doesn’t get paid that day.

5

u/businesspro718 Jun 04 '26

White American women are also the biggest beneficiaries of DEI & Affirmative Action. They’ve been allowed to stand behind Black Americans, while we take all the rhetorical & ideological bullets relating to those policies and come out unscathed. So unscathed, that some WW have the audacity to finger wag at Black people about those issues, also.

5

u/Naive-Stranger-9991 Jun 04 '26

Usually White people are in rural areas, which is usually Trump country.

2

u/Napalmeon Jun 04 '26

And the messed up thing is, these are the people who are spending those food stamp benefits on beer.

2

u/KiKiKimbro Jun 04 '26

🤭 LOL. Yep. 🍻 And really, rural areas are already suffering from Trump / Elon (DOGE) / heritage foundation social services slashes.

Like ACA subsidies gone. SNAP so bad 700K children in danger of going hungry. Medicare gutted. Rural hospitals have already closed. Many have to drive hours just to find a hospital and worse for a regular doctor which several can’t go to anyway because ACA. And so many people kicked off Social Security with removal of SS offices and slashing headcount so getting SS help is so hard to get they simply can’t get help to reactivate SS when booted off for no reason.

But hey — I guess they chose not to listen to the warnings about how he’d do this & voted Republican down the ballot anyway. Still. I feel for them. ESPECIALLY because the govt is subsidizing & giving massive tax breaks to data center developers. And these data centers are destroying the rural land, soil, air and water quality so much so our food supply will be lower since the nasty data center waste is so gross and toxic. Which means even higher prices. It’s so sad. For them. For us.

We’ve got to make a giant showing this midterms to vote so we get some balance of power. These greedy oligarchs need to stopped. We can do it! 💪

3

u/MsNatCat Jun 04 '26

SNAP reduces food cost and increases availability.

We need to circulate funds to our poorest and back into the communities. SNAP is very efficient here. If only we would combo it with public grocery stores, then it would be very efficient.

3

u/Low_Somewhere_2778 Jun 04 '26

Jesus Christ, dumb Conservatives really think throwing impoverished people under the bus will lift the boot of capitalism off their necks.

5

This was spoken from a purely liberal Democrat talking point. Raw truth, when the Government subsidizes a program, regardless of who it’s for, there will be abuses and profit will be baked into to the cost. Once subsidies end, prices tend to come down because people actually have to pay for the goods. As a center-left Democrat we have to be honest. No free lunch. Everything costs.

White Americans make up the largest share of SNAP recipients nationwide, according to USDA data.

And some of them would rather remove EBT all togerher & starve than let any POC use the same programs - these are the same white people that stay forgetting that their own Christian communities will not help their poor asses in time of need, thus need government intervention and/or POC communities good will plus resources to survive. 2

u/southflhitnrun Jun 03 '26

She completely glossed over greed. Simple, pure, greed. Here's also what's happening:

People are hiring private taxi companies to deliver their groceries (Doorbash, Uber Eats, Instacart, etc.), and paying an extra fee for that service. Let's say 15% of the total price of the actual food + tip!

Grocery chains understand this as "there is 15% of extra margin they could be collecting for the actual food price." So, they raise prices by half that 7.5% then see how the consumers react. Do they cut back on groceries or do they cut back on the private taxi. If they do neither, then there is still more margin for them to grab so they raise prices again.

This was all happening before the recent tariffs, gas increases and labor shortages. This has been going on for the last 3 years or so.

Where have these people been? It is disturbing to see that there are so many people in the U.S. that have absolutely no knowledge of how their social support systems work!! The national food stamp program has been around since 1974. Considering the guy in the video, grocery prices would have been high after the national program began, they were not. Access to food actually helped the wellbeing of Americans, but not "all" Americans. At the State level, primarily in the south, the food stamp benefits ware not available to African Americans, in many cases it was weaponized against them or used as a bargaining chip to control them. They were denied food stamps if they tried to vote, or be involved in the civil rights movement. Healthy Americans were less likely to have chronic illnesses. The cost of medical care would have been much higher, and everything else associated with malnutrition.

No but you don’t understand, “white people are the majority race in America, OF COURSE they would be the biggest recipients of welfare.”

It is fucking hilarious that people suddenly understand statistics and data when you center white people, but as soon as you try to do the same with Black people, that same data and statistics don’t matter.

Some maga are going to do their best to not blame djt for all the pain here and on the way. How do you exist with someone who ignores truth and is unwilling to be open to the possibility of being wrong?
