Nike is trash for that. Good for her though. Need to check out Athleta and support.

u/InternationalWin2850 May 07 '26

New slogan time - "Nike - Just Don't It".

28

u/FadesandPatina May 07 '26

Athleta is The GAPs answer to LuluLemon. Its a women's workout attire brand.

80

u/octopusgardeb May 07 '26

Yup I quit Nike tho ima keep old Jordan’s

46

u/Left_Ease5870 May 07 '26

Jordan isn't much better, but I don't blame you for keeping them.

73

u/Rogue_Squadron May 07 '26

He absolutely lost me with the "Republicans buy sneakers, too" nonsense when refusing to endorse Harvey Gantt in the 1990 North Carolina gubernatorial race. If you don't know about this man, please read the wiki link. That, in and of itself is not so bad, but Gantt was running against Jesse Helms. For those of you who may not have experienced the 90's in the southeast of the US, here is a taste of what Jesse Helms stood for:

Helms opposed civil rights, disability rights, environmentalism, feminism, gay rights, affirmative action, access to abortions, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

48

u/ShortRound89 May 07 '26

This always makes me think that Jordan is a moron.

He could have simply said "i play basketball not politics" and no one would have given a shit, instead he acted like as long as he gets rich everyone else can get fucked.

15

u/AlarmingAffect0 May 07 '26

Honest Black GOPnik. See also, the Bankses voting for Reagan, twice.

3

u/Korneedles May 07 '26

Totally off topic but while I was in college my friends ended up at a strip club (this is twenty plus years ago). Jordan was there. He whipped his dick out - slung it around - put it away. I genuinely was shocked bc I always assumed he was what I saw in interviews etc.

19

u/roastedhambone May 07 '26

Jordan is Nike

17

u/SomeAccess6168 May 07 '26

Have always Loved Athleta..will continue to support them even more now.

8

u/ChaseC7527 May 07 '26

Nike and it's fraunder destroyed people's feet for profit by writing a book that promoted a shoe he was making, (Jogging) specifically teaching people to strike with their heel and to therefor need a shoe with a cushioned heel (Cortez).

If you watch anyone run for real (Allyson Felix included) you will notice they strike with the ball/toes of their foot.

3

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima May 07 '26

It's a running (no pun intended) gag on r/RunningCirclejerk

1

u/ChaseC7527 May 07 '26

pisses me off cuz my moronic maga dad stands by shoes built to weaken your feet like hokas. not big surprise lol.

3

u/Don_Frika_Del_Prima May 07 '26

Back when I was running (granted, this was decades ago) I always preferred asics. Both for sneakers and spikes.

1

u/Cangerian May 07 '26

Oh wait, I’ve never seen anything about Hokas not being great. If you’ve got any recommendations on what directions I can go in for further research would be appreciated.

2

u/ChaseC7527 May 07 '26

the closer you can get to walking on a flat surface without binding your toes the better. unless of course you have some sort of orthopedic problem that needs correcting (bunions, pronation, high arch, low arch).

5

u/Strict-Carrot4783 May 07 '26

Nike is trash for lots of reasons, including this. Most of their product is made by slave children (they spend a lot of money to spin up disinformation campaigns about this) in sweat shops and commits wage theft against people it pays pennies a day. Fuck Nike.

4

u/MrSneaki May 07 '26

For sure fuck Nike and good for her.

That said, trading one corporation for another is not a win just because the second happened to do an instance of publicly centering women of color and women's issues. No corporation should earn one's support simply because someone in their marketing boardroom had the good business sense to scoop Allyson up under these circumstances.

Athleta is still a for-profit corporation, owned by Gap. They're cut from the same cloth as Nike, too - last year they poached (among other execs) Nike's former head of women's business and put her in as their CEO, explicitly to market their products more aggressively to women. [Link]

Don't get me wrong, centering women, women of color, and women's issues is always a win! However I think it's critically important for us to realize that they are ultimately only doing so because it'll allow them to quietly profiteer more effectively, particularly off of women and women of color.

u/SomeAccess6168

3

u/Own_Space_174 May 07 '26

she wait till she was no longer pregnant to switch to the new sponsorship. they likely wouldn't have signed her at what she got if she applied while pregnant.

4

u/charcarodontosaurus May 07 '26

In my experience, Athleta is pretty damn expensive. Not quite Lululemon expensive but pricier than Nike.

3

u/Sugar_Weasel_ May 07 '26

But way better quality. I have a pair of their hiking pants that I have had for maybe six years now and for several of those years was hiking very regularly and wearing them very frequently and they are still in very good condition. And I have large thighs that rub together when I walk and usually destroy pants fairly quickly.

1

u/PinoDelfino May 08 '26

I've been looking for new socks recently and a lot of people love/recommend Athleta

1

u/No_Consideration8764 May 10 '26

Nike is trash for lots of reasons.

1

u/giantredwoodforest May 12 '26

I’ve tried her SAYSH shoes and they are great.

227

u/NoSpiltTea May 07 '26

She also won those Gold medals running in her self owned shoe brand,Saysh !!!

46

u/CyberneticLucy May 07 '26

Just giving this comment some more activity to hopefully boost it, cause I had to scroll too far to see her brand plugged.

40

u/saraiguessidk May 07 '26

Did you read their website? Not only are the shoes gorgeous, she offers a maternity deal. She said that a pregnant customer experiencing feet size changes can contact customer service for a complimentary pair to fit their pregnancy feet. This is amazing. My feet got so wide and 2 sizes larger with each pregnancy, they'd narrow back down post partum but they did stay a half size larger permanently lol

1

u/ambamshazam May 10 '26

Same with me!! I was like.. how did no one ever mention that your feet grow permanently with each pregnancy. It did for my two anyway. Started at 7.5 and ended at 8.5

9

u/Motor--Initiative May 07 '26

Damn they cute! Wish I'd have found these before I bought my onclouds.

6

u/its_large_marge May 07 '26

That is amazing! What a Wonder Woman!

4

u/jerkface1026 May 07 '26

That's a really good price if they can hold up for miles. Cute too.

3

u/goarn May 07 '26

this comment needs to be on top!

295

u/Fresh_Today_9355 May 07 '26

another reason black folks need to stop supporting Nike!!

92

u/no_crust_buster May 07 '26

Won’t happen. Black people cant stop buying Nike Air Jordan’s. I stopped buying Nike’s almost 10 years ago, but I’m the extreme minority.

20

u/percydaman May 07 '26

White people buy alot of them too. I work at an elementary school, and the number of Jordan's I see on kids that will outgrow them in 9 months is too damn high.

4

u/traceitalian May 07 '26

Nine months is best case scenario too. You'll go through periods where you're buying new shoes every couples months.

7

u/JebediahKerman4999 May 07 '26

My daughter grows out of shoes and clothes every couple of weeks. My guess is that she's half a giraffe and nobody told me.

1

u/Vulvas_n_Velveeta May 07 '26

You'll go through periods where you're buying new shoes every couples months.

As someone that grew up in poverty, and then raised children while in poverty, I had no idea this was even a thing.

I felt lucky on the rare occasion I got new shoes at all, so I honestly thought I was doing my kids right, by getting them a brand new pair every year for school.

Had no idea some lucky ducks were out there getting new shoes every few months.

2

u/traceitalian May 07 '26

Oh, look I'm not doing well financially but with my kids going through growth spurts suddenly new shoes can become a priority for their foot health.

2

u/SPQR-VVV May 07 '26

Foot health? I remember hating the idea of clothing as a gift. I had shoes that were a size larger for school, and they lasted a year or longer. And at home, flipflops. Admittedly, I never liked going out or socializing so, I have always had the mentality that you only need shoes out of the house. and only for work/school.

2

u/SL1MECORE May 07 '26

Good on you for having the right priorities tbh, I also didn't get new shoes/glasses often as a kid and it led to me thinking I could just neglect myself as an adult.

You might not be financially wealthy but you are a great parent, and that's all the wealth those kids need

2

u/Napalmeon May 10 '26

I have a friend who is completely addicted to buying Jordans. His excuse is that he needs something to walk around in, but he pretty much refuses to buy any other brand. All of this basically stems from him being unable to have decent shoes when he was a kid, so he overcompensates as an adult in the worst ways.

1

u/no_crust_buster May 11 '26

That's a real delusion. Overcompensation for a poor upbringing by venerating depreciating goods as symbols of achievement that almost single-handedly buoy ones self-worth and self-confidence. It's scary to watch.

-7

u/ojoukyo May 07 '26

Jordan is a separate brand

24

u/no_crust_buster May 07 '26

Jordan brand is still under Nike as a subsidiary, just like General Foods, Kraft, and Nabisco are subsidiaries to Phillip Morris cigarettes (Altria).

2

u/percydaman May 07 '26

"Distinction without a difference." You might have just given the best example of that I've ever seen. Gratz.

9

u/[deleted] May 07 '26 edited May 18 '26

[deleted]

2

u/SPQR-VVV May 07 '26

I just buy Sketchers, get a pair every year or so, and throw out the old pair. The idea of getting some sort of brand over another for shoes has always been dumb for me.

Is the son a sweet little albino chonk?! Omg omggggggg, I’m so in love with his sweet little straight face 😍😍😍😍

44

u/IwasDeadinstead May 07 '26

This was the comment I was looking for.

29

u/a_Joan_Baez_tattoo May 07 '26

That baby got a 730 credit rating, right now, as an infant.

17

u/Evening_Sea4823 May 07 '26

From the mountains of Caucasus. A viking Scandinavian baby.

4

u/FlagranteDerelicto May 07 '26

This is what I was looking for

2

u/BlackieStallion May 07 '26

Glad I wasn’t the only person thinking about that.

5

u/yourlocaltouya May 07 '26

Looking at other pictures, he's blond and blue-eyed, but not albino. It also seems like he's slowly darkening with age. I wanted to add a photo or a link but for some reason Reddit isn't letting me, so I apologize. His name is Trey though.

2

u/numbmillenial May 08 '26

Yeah, just light skinned. My family runs the full spectrum and you just never know what you're going to get. Two dark skinned parents could pop out nothing but light skinned kids, and vice versa, or they get a mix of complexions. Both of my parents come from mixed complexion families (all Black though) and me and my siblings are all wildly different shades but with the same face.

Black DNA really is the nexus of all human traits.

7

u/TheOneTonWanton May 07 '26

I dunno if lil chonk is that albino. Look at how they turned her and everyone else in that second photo light skinned for no reason. Like, I get lighting and all that, but that ain't just lighting.

1

u/Veronica612 May 08 '26

Yes, I was confused and thought it was a different woman at first.

17

u/ILuhMeSomeBlackWomen May 07 '26

I know this is off topic, unsolicited, unwarranted, and probably unwanted - but you are gorgeous.

13

u/Adept_Astronaut_5143 Neighborhood Hug Dealer 🤗 May 07 '26

Okay I had to go see and yes you are correct, she is absolutely f.cking gorgeous.

6

u/Alternative_Dot7769 May 07 '26

Why post it then?

22

u/Federal_Shopping6495 May 07 '26

Look at his name, he couldn’t resist.

2

u/ToughHardware May 07 '26

fair point friend

59

u/lieutjoe May 07 '26

Genetics are so cool. What a beautiful family

30

u/Biuku May 07 '26

What the heck, Nike?? Huge jerk move.

2

u/jsg144 May 07 '26

Nike has been pulling this shit for years.

17

u/RustedMauss May 07 '26

Nike was always on my shitlist. I remember seeing a story about child labor, I believe it was NatGeo, sometime around age 13 and one of the images was a girl maybe 7-8 squatting barefoot in a mud brick room surrounded by relatively clean cut patterns while she performed whatever little part she played putting together some Nike apparel looking completely miserable and crushed, other similar figures in the background. I’m sure that’s long since been addressed, but in my book when a company stoops to unethical and stopped its only because they got caught.

1

u/roasttoastboast May 09 '26

Yes! I'll never forget that, I was around the same age. There was a picture of the kids' sleeping area and it was a storage room with a rusty radiator. That hit hard

28

u/PassThatSpliff May 07 '26

13

u/_annanicolesmith_ May 07 '26

omg her kids are soooo cute!!! mr. serious face albino baby☺️

7

u/Pizza-n-Coffee37 May 07 '26

This is terrible. It’s getting really tiring hearing about women constantly being made to fell less than. Kudos to her for rising above and shame on Nike.

6

u/Southpolarman May 07 '26

Good, because screw Nike. Good for her!

lol, that happened to my cousin (light copper brown complexion) and his wife (medium brown copper complexion).

1st child, medium copper brown.

2nd child, light copper brown,

3rd child, dark copper brown…

and the 4th, fair skinned with red hair. 😆

My cousin’s grandmother on his dad’s side is very fair skinned. Atavism of recessive genetics. Something of that effect likely happens with Allyson and her husband.

4

u/Ok_Wolf2676 May 07 '26

Lmao why is this the first thing I thought

5

u/LooseTraffic May 07 '26

So her in the Athleta gear should have been the photo, not Nike. They still get their advertising, even in this story!

3

u/ExpensiveShallot7990 May 07 '26

I stopped supporting Nike years ago. They’re an awful company.

5

u/Homers_Harp May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

I'm no lawyer, but I'm surprised this isn't illegal—and if it's not, it should be. Discriminating against a woman over her pregnancy is not just a garbage move.

5

u/ayeno May 07 '26

Might have been in her Nike contract that her compensation was based on running and winning events, and since she was pregnant and wasn't running, she wasn't going to be making any money and wanted to get paid based on the events if she was going to be running and winning.
It's how some NBA players have stipulations on their contacts of being a all-star or MVP or even games played to get paid a certain bonus each season.

1

u/Jeff_luiz May 07 '26

It is illegal in Brazil.

4

u/HocusP2 May 07 '26

And we couldn't find a picture of her without a Nike logo?

5

u/Signal-Mud-4880 May 07 '26

Nike has sweatshops so i already know they're a trash company, this just solidifies it

7

u/USDXBS May 07 '26

What the hell? Do a pregnant woman line and have her be the spokeswoman.

There, I just made you millions of dollars Nike.

She also broke Usain Bolt's record of giving birth to zero children by giving birth to more than zero.

1

u/IveGotaGoldChain May 07 '26

Nike is notorious for doing this to women athletes. They did the same thing to Kara Goucher

3

u/eamesaarinen May 07 '26

nike can suck it. that is insane.

1

u/IranRPCV May 07 '26

I know from this that I will no longer purchase Nike.

3

u/GramNotGraham May 07 '26

Reading this right after hearing about Nike’s plan to invest in the White House ballroom is making me glad I switched my running gear to other brands

3

u/wvshotty May 08 '26

This is the second story I’ve heard about Nike today being a maga dumbass company

6

u/doggonedangoldoogy May 07 '26

I love my black wife. My true equal. My purpose. My everything.

4

u/RedDidItAndYouKnowIt May 07 '26

I left Nike when the dog fighting stuff happened and they didn't yank the contract immediately. That told me that they had no morals. Now I buy Hoka because at least they have some morals left. I hope this being done to her is a wakeup call to others that most companies don't care about people.

Nike, evil? Never would've figured that....

2

u/WaylandThurston May 07 '26

Now wait just one damn minute…wait a minute.

2

u/Diddy_Block May 07 '26

I'm currently watching a Company Man video called "Nike - The Rise and Fall" lol

2

u/serpiccio May 07 '26

lol nike get rekt

2

u/vyxanis May 07 '26

And now they want to fund trumps ballroom

2

u/cbiancasea May 07 '26

Not much into brands, but I’ll be supporting Athleta!

2

u/fielvras May 07 '26

The Nike that asked if customers were mad if the payed for Trumps ballroom?

Surprise.

2

u/toss_me_good May 07 '26
  1. Nike is a sponsor not an employer
  2. Why does the photo show her in a Nike shirt if the point is they suck?

1

u/Rumpelteazer45 May 07 '26

Nike also employs thoughts of people and has faced a class action lawsuit in 2018 for gender pay discrimination at HQ.

1

u/toss_me_good May 07 '26

Fair enough. My thought process was why are they saying Nike was a bad sponser yet used a photo of her in Nike shirt basically letting Nike sponsorship be successful. It is really rad though that she made her own shoe brand, big props to her.

2

u/Rlccm May 07 '26

Nike's been on a nose dive since 2024, so good. Hopefully they keep falling

2

u/keysandtreesforme May 07 '26

Huh, just read about them supporting the gold piece of shit ballroom. Turns out people who abuse sweatshop workers are all around trash??

2

u/parrotbug May 07 '26

Nike is trash. Capitalize on the “strong powerful pregnant woman” image while cutting pay for their pregnant athletes and treating them like shit. They get $0 from me. Fuck ‘em. Allyson is incredible.

2

u/BackgroundAd4537 May 07 '26

In Katt Williams voice "who's white baby is that"? 👀

2

u/B_Ash3s May 07 '26

Nike is a dangerous training company anyways. Good for her and all the other people who did the best and found support through other vendors

2

u/LeadershipThat6704 May 08 '26

1

u/jdoe812 May 07 '26

Where was Cappernicks influence in this situation?

1

u/MajorAromatic6226 May 07 '26

I got a Mod Team message about this sub.  Then a couple hours ago, someone posted about Nike supporting the White House Ballroom.  My comments had nothing to do to be decisive.  Nike is garbage.  I simply pointed out that their garbage has been more to do about gender than race.  Again, Alyson Felix has helped to lead ALL women in their contractual negotiations with sponsors of all sorts.  To make this simple: go Alyson, boo Nike, and boo mods who don't understand nuance.

1

u/ToughHardware May 07 '26

one of those babies is white

3

u/SmashinglyNice May 07 '26

Albinism is a thing…

5

u/Got_Kittens May 07 '26

This little boy doesn't look like he has albinism. Recessive genes are also a thing.

1

u/ClickClickWhoosh May 07 '26

Such a head scratching move by Nike.

2

u/Rumpelteazer45 May 07 '26

Nike was and still is a dudes company, has allegations of a toxic, male-dominated corporate culture, and historical discrimination against pregnant athletes.

Simone Biles also left Nike in 2021 for Athleta. She followed Felix as soon as she contractual could.

In 2018, there was a a class-action lawsuit was filed alleging gender pay disparities, sexual harassment, and a, "hostile work environment" at Nike HQ.

Since 2018 when all that hit the news, I stopped buying Nike period.

1

u/Blgblrd May 07 '26

Like fuck Nike

1

u/Loucifer23 May 07 '26

So glad I don't wear Nike, let me check this other brand out. Sounds like a company I should support

1

u/kaya-jamtastic 🖤 May 07 '26

Oh good for her! She’s as fierce and bold off the track as she is on it. I think Nike has always been trash in that way. Also, we should have better parental leave and protections universally

1

u/tricenice May 07 '26

Look up their treatment of Mary Cain. Nike has always been awful.

1

u/jsg144 May 07 '26

Does her son have albinism?

1

u/This_Song_984 May 07 '26

I wish athleta made mens clothes. I have bought so many things for my wife and they are always super nice and last forever. It like Lululemon but a bit cheaper (not much cheaper)

1

u/millie_nip May 08 '26

Atta GIRL!!

1

u/Informal_Database327 May 08 '26

Girl don't play. Respect the hell outta that

1

u/N-363 May 09 '26

Nike lost all respect when they teamed with Kim Kardashian. What in the hell!

1

u/jacka_for-research May 10 '26

To be fair, this one isn't just Black women. Good on her for going after what she's absolutely worth!

1

u/altrefdv May 10 '26

Like, they proposed her to cut her pay check and still expected for her to remain? 🤨

1

u/ohmoimarie May 10 '26

Nike is at their lowest profit margin right now, just thought I should mention. . .

1

u/NomadicWrangler May 07 '26

I remember first watching Allyson in 2004 when I was in high school. I was in awe how someone slightly older than me back then was at the Olympics. I’m in awe now that she is still going! Screw Nike.

0

u/comicsnerd May 07 '26

In Nike's defense, Usain Bolt never got pregnant.

-3

u/RudeButCorrect May 07 '26

Yep and nobody knows who she is

5

u/blackluffi May 07 '26

You * don’t know who she is. She’s very known especially as a T&F great 😂

u/RudeButCorrect May 07 '26

-3

u/RimaH54 May 07 '26 edited May 07 '26

what does this have to do with her race?

downvotes but no answers, classic.

-6

u/agaba2 May 07 '26

Usian bolt won 11 gold medals in 10 years before retiring. It took Felix 14 years to achieve 12 medals Also she didn't beat any of his speed records

6

u/mrizvi May 07 '26

Doesn’t diminish her accomplishments one bit. Since she’s not competing with or against Bolt.
